The poetically named Dubai Duty Free is upon us.
Why they do another (not so prestigious) 6 day Premier the day after Doha, I have no idea, but they do.

Surprised The Undefeatable Vichka and Female RedFoo are here, but I wonder if it's because the rankings are so damn tight. ReRe currently is 265 points ahead of Victoria, and neither of them have any points to defend !
This is a Sugar-Free tournament, so the gap between 2nd and 3rd (600pts) is about to get wider. AgRad is defending so she's gonna fall even further behind the top 3. Tough life for Female Ferrer.

    Points to defend:

    Vika 0
    Serena 0

    AgRad 470
    Kerber 0
    Errani 130
    Kvitova 0
    Woz 200
    Stosur 120
    Ivanovic 120

The Supreme Battle for The Throne of Glory

    Serena to keep No.1:

    • Make the final.
    • Make the QF or SF and Victoria finishes as anything other than Champion.
    • Loses her first match but Victoria has a pedicure and does make the final

Victoria to reclaim her (rightful!) crown:

    • Beat anyone but Serena in the final.
    • Lose in the final but Serena loses in the first match.

Li Na misses out because of injury, Sugar is being treated for a glucose-overdose (kidding, where is she?).

Another chance for Stephens, Robson, Barthel etc. to impress. Will they take it?

    Remember, strong is beautiful.

Early start! Stephens is already up and about against 22yr-old Cirstea, who is no-ones mug. Should be a good one!

It's almost as if we're watching the WTA.

She's probably still dizzy from the shock of beating Stephens last week. I know I am.

I've seen a lot of mug players in ATP too :) The only reason people usually say the WTA is inconsistent and no holds of serve etc; is only because they don't have powerful serves like men. Zako the better player though i think, Bartolis service motion is already making me itch

Surpriing, wouldn't have been suprised if she totally lost it in the end, never known Cirstea to cope wll under preasure. You never know what you're gonna get with her.

Well, that's it. I wasn't making a comment on the standard of WTA (woe betide), more on the fact that holding/breaking serve does not carry the same gravitas. It's more of a race to 6.

Looking forward to Robson vs Russian Robson later on. Should be a win for the former, but who knows; she disappointed in Doha so this is a chance to get back on track.

Hope Sloane's career claim to fame isn't once beating an injured Serena Williams.

Probably not, but Sloane doesn't seem ready to consistently beat players ranked below her yet.

it's ok. the next time she wins an important match the media will hype her up and people will start calling her BabySerena or Serena's Protege again...

in a way, it kinda takes away from her own achievements seeing as she's only 19 or so.

You know that anybody has a chance with Petra because of the amount of unforced errors she is capable of making.

I was wondering more in terms of Ana's performance, of course, she herself can be a headcase too. I don't remember stats from last match Petra had with Serena, what was her ratio of UFE/W ?

I'm not sure but her unforced errors were pretty low that match. She played great for the most part.

It's absolutely hilarious when I bet on a guaranteed winner and her unknown opponent makes no errors. If this was my first time watching tennis I'd think the pudgy girl was #1 in the world.

Full on tank from Putintseva up two breaks at 5-2. Back to 5-5. Robson hit a stunning cross court backhand, but other than that, it's been a Putin tank job (get it?).

So Serena is up first tomorrow yet Renka doesn't play until Wednesday. Seems a touch harsh, but I expect Renka is still in flight. Harpies tend to fly slowly, especially with trophies weighing them down.

If Serena has her serve this week she should win. I reckon she wouldn't like to lose twice to Azarenka in 1 month, let alone ever (and lets face it, Victoria has the best chance of beating her). Even serving at 50% she was able to overcome Kvitova who was playing probably the best match she played all year, as well as swatting Sharapova out of her way to get to the final (where, had she capitalized on the set point in the 1st set most likely would have ended with the 6-2 second set--anyway that's not the point). So we shall see.

does serena play bartoli after her next match? should be interesting.

apart from Serena, bartoli seems the most composed and mentally tough WTA player... thoughts?

I've never seen Bartoli fall apart mentally; however, her fitness leaves a bit to be desired and is her greatest weakness.
