Don is a 3 year old car with 150000 miles.
He was leading 3-1 in the third set and didn't win a game after that, that's 'The Donald' for you always finding a way to lose. He is now at a win-loss of 5-24 this year.
That needs an oil change
More like a new mechanic.
I literally "brushed shoulders" with Donald Young and Alex Bogomolov Jr. today at the Charlottesville Challenger tournament. I'm 6ft 1' tall and there's no way the Donald is 6ft 0in. Alex who's listed at 5ft 10" was slightly taller than the Donald. I'm guessing he's a true 5ft 9in...
One more thing....
The new coach that Young hired around the US Open is no where to be seen. I've only seen his mom over the last 3-4 days. She's typically on her cell phone looking bored and half asleep, while Donald Young is on the practice courts hitting with Jack Sock/Jesse Levine/Alex Bogomolov Jr.
The Donald fed his opponent a bagel today in the first set. Then he proceeded to lose the next 2 of course...
Yup. First round exit from a challenger...
I saw that match in person. He was clowning around at the end of the first set on his opponent's 2nd serves. Acted like he was in total control. Popped a string, switched to a different brand of racquet and his game collapsed in the 2nd set. His momma ran off to get his racquet re-strung and Young switched back to the original racquet in the 3rd set but played really conservative and just seemed to be happy with spinning everything in. Not a single forehand of DY's was going more than 2-3 ft beyond the service line.
What professional goes on court with just one match racquet?!
Tight budget... If he could afford fresh alu power each set he would be mini-goat.
Sounds like end of the line for him.
Switching racket models? I can't even . . .
What model did he switch from/to?
Ouch, DY lost in the first round of Charlotsville Challenger lamely to Lammer, 76 in 3rd.
can he qualifies for the WTF?
He is already the WTF?....He doesn't need to qualify for it....he is entitiled to it.
I think he went from Prince -> Donnay -> Prince (after his mom got it re-strung)
Just shows his lack of concern when he shows up with two different racquets strung without a second one for backup, no wonder the guy lost umpteen in a row.
So The Donald finishes 2012 ranked #190. Ouch!
OOps from 60 to 190? No good. Anyone knows his backgroud? Is his family rich so he has no motivation as Gulbis?
I believe he received a lot of endorsement money early on.
Shame do what he needs to do to be more successful.
So, what is Donald doing to prepare for 2013 season. Will he come out like a Hurricane and win the Aussie open ?
Probably not. Besides, hurricanes only ever happen at the USO!
so much wrong with the donald, i don't know where to begin. really seems like it's too late to make many changes now anyway. as low as he's ranked now he's gonna have to either qualify (does he want to put out the effort to do that and can he win?) or get wildcards (does anyone really want to spend a wildcard on him still?). now that the usta does tournaments to decide wildcards, he'd have to win those too. he seems like he's too stubborn to change and if he did fire his parents, get a new coach and actually listens to them and makes changes to his game, how much time does he physically have left on the tour?
with the donald, i always wonder "when is he gonna quit and go be a pro somewhere?" maybe i'm wrong, i hope i'm wrong but i think it's about over for him.
btw, i don't think i'd get many games off dy. sure i might get a couple points here and there, but you cannot my ability to play with immeasurable stupidity!
DY 1 win away from Qualifying in Brisbane - beat Zverev an hour ago in the 2nd round of Q's and yesterday he beat Olivier Rochus in straights. He'll meet the winner of Bogomolov and Millman tomorrow.
Two quali wins in a row! DY is poised to join the Four Tops this year.
2 pretty good results to be fair
It would be fun if he qualified, drew Ito, beat him then had to play Murray.
Qualifying, Match Time 2 hrs and 15s.
Donald Young d Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-2
Not looking good for DY, down 6-4 3-0 to Millman in final round of qualies
Millman wins it 6-4, 6-2 in 1hr 12min. DY beat some solid players in the first two rounds of qualifying and will get 6 ranking points for making the final round of qualifying.
Ah The Donald, so close and yet so far.
So who's his coach down in Australia?
He wouldn't be able to afford a good coach these days, and I don't think the USTA will gift him a quality coach at this point.
Someone his height would have to have a rock solid mental game if they wanted to have any chance. But he likes bling and crocked hats and getting pissy when things don't go his way.
He'll get a nice pro job somewhere when he retires. He'll be fine.
He beat James Blake in Australia qualies
In straights no less. This going to be the year where he displays some of that talent McEnroe promised us?
Knowing the Donald, he'll lose to Jamie Baker now and won't qualify.
Blake beat Blake. The Donald just happened to be on the court.
Donald vs Baker definitely the tie of R3 qualifying (if you're British).
I certainly hope so! Love Jamie Baker
On the other hand Young could have easily defeated Young. But he didn't on that day, so he gets at least a little credit.
LOL, so Donald now gets credit for being able to keep the ball in play. How Low can stupe down to ? He was tauted as the most gifted player to come out of USA since JP McEnroe.
And, we'll NEVER stop driving that point home. He was a highly touted junior player surely, but the view was far from universal. Many people noted the lack of size and a big weapon early on and questioned if those touting him as the next great American player were off base. Yet, TWers like to throw around that everyone thought DY would be the greatest, making his inability to meet expectations a bigger deal than it actually is. Not everyone thought he was destined to be a champion.
I just don't get it. Certainly, many top prospects from the U.S. or other countries have not panned out. It happens. Regularly. Yet, we still have a DY thread even though he's ranked in the 180s?
skraggle!!!! good day to you, sir! where have you been???????
Donald is trailing 1-4 in the deciding set against Baker. At least he can share a cab with Michael Yani back to Melbourne Airport.
The Don is out.
Great result for the fabulous Baker Boy and Scottish & British number 2.
DY just can't beat two JB's in a row! Guess he would have had problems with 007 as well. Now, if he ever matches up with the Bieb, I'll take DY!
