Does anyone know is he is playing anywhere this week
Nowhere, I think.
He was on the ALT list for a 100K Challenger in the Caribbean, but he pulled out. Turns out, with all the withdrawals due to Miami, he would've gotten straight in.
He's scheduled to play 2 Challengers in Mexico next.
Georgia and Miami not that far away. He should of hung out there just in case!
What kind of a loser would spend time reading this? Oh. Right.
Holy Christ serve. Check out 2:50 unreturnable. Then 4:12 he hits a well-placed "puff" serve only to have an easy winner volley. At 6'7" S/V is a good deal.
Anyone who thinks they can get a game off either of them is plain nuts. They are PROFESSIONALS -- they do this for a living. Even our best (non-open) posters in this forum could dream of doing well against the pros. But it's a dream only.
I don't know about you guys, but I enjoyed watching both players in that video!
How much money does DY - make a year? Over $100K - for sure right?
Well his Dunlop deal flopped
Pretty sure he's making less, but the traveling and everything must be great.
But he and his family have millions from his junior years.
I wonder if he thinks back to the days when he was 17-19 when he could've trained with Sebastion or the time he could've trained with nadal.
His money would be far longer then it is now, plus he's black, he could've made a killing, if he lived up to his hype.
I don't know about millions, where would he have made millions? I think he's struggling mightily financially right now. Also, just because he was black doesn't mean he would have made a killing. His sideways baseball cap and attitude turned off a lot of fans.
That being said, I was rooting for him hard last year, but I always like the underdogs -big fan of Brian Baker too.
I've hit with Donald plenty of times. We talk here and there on Facebook.
Played against him in juniors in doubles. It's indeed a fact he got millions from Nike.
Back then they gave millions to every up and coming athlete. Now I'm guessing they are stricter.
If he would've been consistently top 10 and won some grand slams lets say, how nadal did. He would've brought in 2 demographics Americans and black people.
If Donald did what nadal did, he would be bigger than federer Srs.
Do u mean that he gave up on the rackets and went back to Prince, thereby voiding the deal?? Cause I thought it was a bad move, after the results he had in '11 with the Prince racket, to switch frames chasing a contract. I think it contributed to the losing streak he went on. I dont know why he stuck with it for so long. And he was constantly switching between Dunlop frames as well.
Does he know u post here??
And what Sebastian are u referring to??
He's a solinco racquet endorser now.
I think he/she meant the Donald can be winning a few rounds at masters events in his head at night when asleep..not in reality though
Wonder if he is in tougher shape; if the USTA will relent and give him a wild card to the main draw again. It been like 6 years and he is up for one soon.
Pretty sure he's done getting WCs. To be honest, he's had his share. It's time for the new generation to get a few, I guess.
But, he got WCs back in 2011. The US Open was a WC, and I believe a few others that year as well.
He just needs to grind his way back into the top 100, and stay there this time.
Dont think we'll see another year like last year with a double digit losing streak.
He is in the main draw or challengers for the next 3 weeks Leon, Guadalajara and Mexico City
Yeah he's not relevant anymore
He Plays Munoz De La Nava in the first round of a Mexican challanger and he is also playing doubles with Jordan Kerr (AUS)
Donald won easily 3 and 2 against Munoz De La Nava plays either GOJOWCZYK or Benneteau.A
The Donald won easily again, 3 and 3. Next up, the number 1 seed -- Lu, I believe.
Hahaha yeah these are massive, massive ifs aren't they, considering he has nowhere near that level of talent.
Talent yes, genetics and skills no.... But your right, huge ifs lol.
Will The Donald beat Lu?
No, the Challenger Tour veteran will stop The Donald's mini-streak today.
Well, DY leads the H2H 1-0, they played in '11 I believe.
And, DY just closed out the 1st set. Lu looks like he's spraying a lot of balls.
If DY wins this he'll jump another 8-10 places in the rankings up to about 175.
DY up a break 1-0 in the 2nd.
Hope I am wrong. They are on serve in the second now. Lu just broke back.
They were at 3-all, then DY broke, held for 5-3.
He just had 3 MPs, pushed a forehand into the net on the 2nd. Lu hit a let cord volley winner on the 3rd.
DY serving for it at 5-4 now.
DY just closed it out 6-3, 6-4.
Took another 7 MPs I think in that last game alone, plus saving a BP, to hold serve.
Still too many bad UEs on DYs part I think.
The game he got broken I think he hit 2-3 DFs, hit a DF to start the 5-4 game. He's giving too many pts away.
Anyway, another good win for him, more upward movement in the rankings. He should beat Weintraub tmrw.
If he does well these next 3-4 Challengers, and he should, he should be back in the top 100 by early May.
Another good result from DY. He beat Weintraub 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Saved 11/11 BPs in the 2nd, which was huge, obviously. He shouldnt be happy having to save that many BPs, however.
And he's still making too many stupid, needless UEs. Sometimes it looks like he's pushing moonballs into the net, if that sounds logical.
He's missing these no pace forehands into the net when it looks like he's trying to hit them much higher. Now, when he actually hits with pace, he does much better. IMO.
Anyway, he's up to 167 with this win, if he wins tmrw he should be around 160 with 3-4 more Challengers in a row to bank some more pts.
How's his serve looking? On another thread I saw some average serve speed numbers from the 2011 Open and I was startled at how slow DY's serves were.
I'd say good. In his match against Lu he hit a few aces out wide in the ad court, also changed it up a couple times and hit a few kick serve aces in the deuce ct yesterday and today.
His biggest problem with his serve, to me, are all the DFs he'll throw in sometimes to dig himself a hole.
Looks like he is trying out a different string.
I check the points on the Challengers and it like 80 points and $5,000.00 if you win the tournament.
1st rd. $365 0 points
2nd rd. $600 6 points
3rd rd. $1,020 15points
Qtr $1,755 29points
Semi $3,000 48points
DY needs about 450 points to be ranked 120. He currently has 244 points and is ranked 194. DY needs 200 more points to qualify for the Masters without Qualifying. To get to a rank of 150 in order to play in qualifying in the Master tournaments he needs to have 350 points or 160 more points.
When donalds ranking was high all last yer. Idk why he didn't come down and play a fe challengers for points and confidence. With the confidence he could've prolly did better at bigger tournaments... Prolly would've been top 75 still
The Donald won the final easily. Congrats to him.
Is Lyon rigged for DY, or is he on chem?
This is Young's 6th challenger win. I think the 'record' is 11.
I think matchup had a lot to do with it. Wang is listed at 5'10", 141. This is totally unscientific, but I don't think he's big enough to trouble DY.
Must say my brother
Most challengers won by man was 11?
According to the ATP site, Yen-Hsun Lu has an 18-14 record in ATP Challenger Tour finals. I'd imagine Lu would be somewhere near the record.
good for Donald, as much crap as many of us give him, I think most would like to see him turn it around and live up to some of the hype.
I love that DY is going to the challengers - and now winning. He's finally working his way up through the ranks, which was cut short when he was young (well, he still is Young). I think he can be a solid ATP player if he continues his education as a tennis player. (As Rod Laver would say)
DY got whooped at Guadalajara Challenger in 1st round. Short week.
He's worked his way up the rankings before, he's cracked the top 100 twice, and fallen out of the top 100 twice. And he'll be top 100 again, probably in about a month or so.
You're making it sound like he's never played Challengers before. He's played a ton of Challengers. He just never had to play Challengers last year because he had DA to practically every Tour level tournament last year.
As for the short week, most of the guys that went deep in Leon lost 1st rd this week. Young, Wang, and Weintraub all lost 1st rd.
Might be a blessing in disguise though. He's signed up for like 5-6 Challengers in a row, every week, till May. Maybe this'll give him some rest.
After this he's playing Mexico City on hard, then Savannah & Tallahassee on clay. I think those are the two that count for the USTA French WC.
Apparently Nike has dropped DY who is now wearing Lotto attire.
He's been wearing Lotto since January.
yup, this might have been the first time you've seen a pic of the donald in a while though so we won't be too hard on you though!
It's about damn time! Time for everyone to forget about this guy. There are plenty of other more talented younger American players to pay attention to.
Donald lost to Langer in 3 sets
