so is Donald playing in Illinois ?
Once again: Donald is not on Entry List for Illinois.
See how he gets on with Saki, who got a couple of wins In Charlottesville.
If he played Champaign he would have about 4 weeks to take it easy before starting to get ready for the Australian swing. Not playing gives him an extra week.
Playing Myneni now regarding Illinois he can request a wildcard like Sock did at this tournement or he can go through qualifying. If he gets to semis/final he can get a SE into Illinois
Arent SEs only for players who weren't high enough to get straight into the next tourney, but couldn't play qualies because they were still in the first tournament??
Anyways, he's thru to the 2nd rd, plays Singh next, for a possible rematch with Polansky in the qtrs. If he wins the whole thing he should be around top 80.
looks like he is tanking the Singh match! down 5-0.
Not lookin good at the moment. Down 0-5.
Trying to figure out how Singh isnt ranked any higher the way he's playing against DY right now.
Looks like somebody should've signed up for Champaign.
Edit: It's a wrap. Singh thru 0 & 3. When they shook hands he actually looked just a tad shorter than DY. Wouldnt expect DY to get overpowered by someone smaller than him like that. Singh's game looks a bit 'public parkish', but he goes for a lot, and I guess if they're going in, he'll be effective. Hit quite a few running passing shots too, off both sides.
Smyczek is in the MD of Chennai as the last DA, at #89, DY is 4th ALT at #96. The difference between #89 and #96 is 31 pts, so about a SF Challenger showing. Not sure why DY didnt suck it up for one more week and play Champaign.
At least he's MD at the Aussie. Guess its qualies here, and maybe Sydney, if he doesnt make it far in Chennai.
Is it that much easier to get to the semis of the challenger than go through qualifying at Chennai? It looks like he played a lot of tennis this fall and his results were starting to suffer, so it was probably a good time to take a break. He will still have the opportunity to move up more with good results in the early tournaments of next year.
I guess we can check his record.
However, Champaign was really weak this year, a lot of pull outs. Also, he had 2-3 weeks off between the 3 Challengers in Calif and the last 3 of the year. Plus, he lost qtrs and 2nd rd in the last 2 he played, so he shouldve had enough rest coming in, and while playing the last 2. And he didnt play dubs the last week.
I think he was likely mentally fatigued from a long season and in need of an extended break. There should have been no reason for him to be physically tired.
3 seed in qualies at Doha and loses to an Austrian called Dominic Thiem.
Where is SUPER talent Donald ???????? he is no where to be found. how far can he go at Aussie open playing like this ??
Hopes to draw Murray in first round
He can do it
Donald Young at the Heineken Open qualifying, vs Alexander Zverev
Russian emigre Sitak is next in the qualie draw @Auckland. Could be interesting.
Video of Donald Young versus Sitak where someone was nice enough to remove the dead time in between points. Impressive play.
this was heinekin oopen ? it saids Comerica bank on the fence. didn't know they were in austrailia?
ALL right man,, Bradley Klahn into top 100. he plays Steve Johnson today in Qualies of heinekin open. GO BRAD
That video was from the '10 Aptos Challenger.
Thanks. It was unintentional unforced error on my part. Old video fooled me.
Donald back to Prince again?
Donald through to the main draw with a 6-1 3-6 6-1 win over Sitak
Bradley Klahn UP 15-0 on Steve Johnson. will qualify for sure and also might be a threat to win the Aussie open too
More Don at the qualies:
DY looks lean and mean. Good wins for him to start the year.
they're not, but then, neither is Auckland..
ahh, Nostradamus, you never fail to amuse
If DY gets past Delbonis in the first round, he'll then meet David Ferrer. Better book the flight to Melbourne for Thursday.
DY up 7-5 4-1 on Delbonis
And he wins, the beat goes on.
the donald. 4-2 against ferrer
im watching on streamhunter
The Donald won the first set against daveed.
This guy will never live up to the hype. What is the problem?
hes no monfils but the dude is going to be top 5
Conserving energy for AO???
Anyone know if he has to qualie or is he direct entry?
Direct entry is top 104 I think, he would get in that way.
Yeah, but it's that 60-day-prior ranking that I didn't keep track of last fall.
Edit...answered my own question by scanning qualie results from today...DY is direct entry or he would have been in Melbourne playing today.
Wait a second...I just scanned the players list by alphabet at the AO website...there are no "Y" entrants! Didn't look under "T" or "D"???
You were probably looking at the woman's side of the page Donald is in the men's players beginning with Y with Youzhny
Link to full Donald vs Ferrer match can someone tell me who is sitting next to his mother as I think he may be Donald's new coach
Right you are...I was thinking the left column was A thru L for both sexes. Thanks!
as far as i can tell Donald plays Hasse at about 11 pm est USA today on Court 13. I don't think it has any TV coverage at all, but if anybody knows different, post.
donald young to take on monfils in round 2
after haase had to retire in the 4th
i am fans of both so looking forward to this
Maybe Donald can WIN this aussie open just has he had won this few years back.
Lol. He did win AO as a junior, didn't he?
Anyway, good for him for continuing to stabilize his career. Clearly, he's not going to be the champion prodigy that some people years ago thought he might be (and for which he's been continually slayed on TW). But, once he dropped down to 150-160, there was no guarantee he'd even partially turn it around. So getting back to Top 100 and auto-entry into slams, and winning even one or two rounds at Slams is really good.
And, he plays Seppi, not Monfils in the second round. That's a winnable match (though lose-able as well).
Did you see Seppi/Hewitt? I would emphasize the "lose-able" if DY doesn't bring top-shelf talent AND grittiness! Every time it looked like Hewitt had turned the tide there was Seppi taking it right back. LOL at "the experts" (Gilbert and Agassi via Gilbert's phone saying the match was over once Hewitt won the 3rd set). It was only later they pulled out Seppi's crazy good five-set record!
Separate names with a comma.
