take my eye off it for a moment and he gets broken back, jeeze
Wow, this was certainly wrong. Pretty close first set. Care to adjust your prediction?
Massive collapse after being up a break in the 1st
Tough run. But I think Donald is still better that a 4.5 from TT.
Good tournament result, but not a great match result. Not that he lost, just the way he went away in the 2nd set. Would have been fine if would have won at least 3 or 4 games in set 2.
I dunno, I think I could take him.
I was being funny. Although he does still suck a bit doesn't he?
Don't take it all so seriously. It's just some random tennis pro, who at this point is not particularly relevant. Keep in mind, not all of us here are American.
That's a long way from hate. It's barely even an emotion at all. But it is fun from time to time to goad people who get worked up about nothing.
Long live The Don!
The Donald had a heartbreaking first set against Verdasco. He kind of was out of it in the tiebreaker at 7-6(1) Verdasco. I did not watch the second set; but it appeals that he just broke down mentally from the tiebreaker since the second set ended up at: 1-6 The Donald!
On the positive side: he should be in at least in the high seventies or low eighties because of The Donald performance.
And The Donald knows he can play on clay now too! He can make it in the main draw of Monte Carlo with his ranking. Hopefully, he will not draw Rafa or Nole until the semis.
Pretty sure u've been told before, the entry deadline is 6 wks prior to the Monday of the wk the tournament starts. So, for Monte Carlo, that would be March 3rd.
So, no, he's not going to be playing Monte Carlo. In fact, he's signed up to play the next 3 US Challengers on clay starting next wk in Sarasota.
Next tour level clay tourney we might see him at is Nice, the wk before the French.
Sarasota, Savannah and Tallahassee...stepping stones to an early exit @RG.
^^agreed, we have three americans ranked in the 60s now behind isner, klahn querrey and johnson, i think young is somewhere in the 70s, none of them are at monte carlo
could someone tell me when the last time an american wasn't at a 1000 event??
I think DY is thinking of going deep in the draw at French Open. DY played well in the first set against Verdasco in the quarters; and Verdasco is a great red clay player. If DY can get a good draw in the FO; no Rafa, no Nole, no Stan; he could do well if goes pass to the second round and end up with like Murray to play against!
Haha, with that hypothetical draw I think Ryan Harrison could remain composed enough to make grand slam noise... maybe.
Would that, by any chance, be the Murray that straight-setted him on clay on US soil a couple of months ago in a DC tie?
He was just showing The Donald how to count...1,2,3
I almost think Donald's best surface is clay instead of hard courts
Young is playing pretty well right now...but if I had to put money on it I would say he loses first round. There is a 1/3 chance he draws a seed first round and if he does he is almost surely out. Even if he doesn't draw a seed, there is a good chance it is someone better than him.
I would be real surprised if he could beat a player like Murray, even on clay.
Your math is flawed...it's a 1 in 4 chance to draw a seed...32 of 128. I don't know that he leaves 1R but I seriously doubt he should book the room for the second week.
Yes, my bad 1/4 chance....
he doesn't need to. if he makes it to 2nd week, French federation will give him any hotel room he wants.
DY takes out another Zverev today 6-4 0-0 ret. They got any more brothers in that family that DY can beat?
Well played, sir. Well played!!
DY to play Kyrgios for a spot in the semis
going to be a good match
Did Donald already play today?
Good old days Aussie/American match but on green clay instead of grass.
Should be a cracking match. Looks like a rain delay though
Kyrgios takes the first set and is up a break in the second.
Looking good for not having played for 3 months.
4 and 4. Young gets the hype but America has a Special K of our own...tomorrow's opponent Kosakowski will be a tad tougher in thinking.
DY lost in the quarter finals of Sarasota Challenger!
Nick Kyrgios 6 6
Donald Young 4 4
He should move up in the rankings to middle 70s now from 81!
Donald is losing to some Teenager named Nishoka from Japan. What is going on here ????
Bad loss for DY to an 18 year old ranked in the low 300s.
but I think this Japanese player is hot up and comer. he is one of those Bolletieri's Can't miss products. ONe of his Phenoms, if you will.
wow, they are playing in Mosooon rain hurricane..... Ginepri on the way back
There's no spinning this as anything but a bad loss. He's the top seed, he had momentum after tying at a set each and then the roof caved in for a breadstick session instead of his Happy Meal at Mickey D's.
That's life for The Donald...looks great for a bit but there's a train wreck up around the next curve.
I watched the match and Donald was trying like crazy. Donald had a lot to lose because of this loss in 1st round. he had a lot of points to defend here because he reached the semis last year.
but this little dude from Bolletieri's was hitting HUGE ball with flat shots and it drove Donald crazy
DY said to his mom during loss to Kyrgios that he didn't want her to say anything to him ever again. I think DY could be rebelling against his mother/coach. Time to let go momma. The loss to Nishioka could be manifest of the discontent.
DY has to break free, his mom around makes him look still like a fourteen year old junior.
It's a $100,000 Challenger so a SF finish is only 35 points lost. The key is confidence lost, momentum not gained. Next week is Tallahassee, where IIRC he is defending champion. That's 100 points that gets flushed with a 1R exit so he needs to wrap himself around that assignment today. Not easy with yesterday's loss and its associated demons.
who would he hire as his new coach ??? didn't he have coached in the past ?
Ahhhhhmmmmm.. this is $50,000 challenger
Possible coaching candidates: Spadea, Stefanki, Gilbert, Cahill, Martin, Rios, Chang, Santoro, James Blake...
Thanks, my internet connection failed for a few minutes so the draw sheet wasn't available. Sarasota was $100K but Savannah hasn't followed suit. Tallahassee, then, might not mean as many points either. Right now, DY lost only 29 points from last year's SF in Savannah.
ROFL,,,,,,,,,,,,, Spadea ??? wow, he is party rapper. Donald may just fall out of top 1000.
Chang is taken already. Cahill and Gilbert are too stuck up on themselves to coach Young. although Gilbert would be a great option.
Blake's philosophy would also not work.
Santoro will not coach Young.
Stefanki is a good option but his mother may not get along with him
He just can't maintain momentum for any period in his career, just like all the other guys ranked 75-whatever.
But, at least he's in this 5 month window where he has basically no points to defend.
Nishioka was a good junior player, but at the next level he will struggle because he's a midget with a weak serve. I think he will do well to get into the top 50 during his career.
He lost in the qtrs to Harrison last yr.
Thanks...even less pressure to deal with then while hitting the reset button.
The Donald won his first round match at Tallahassee Challenger. By the way; Donald is ranked number 1 in the seeding.
He won against an Australia - Thannasi Kokkinakis 7-6(4), 6-1
Donald lost in the quarters or semi of the Tallahassee Challenger. It was a straight set loss too. But he got more points to boost his rankings.
FO will be interesting for DY and his fan like me to see how far he can get into the tournament!
