Very maturely played match, impressive win. Schwartzman used the scouting report from last year. It worked for almost two sets, but it looks like The Donald has a new weapon for 2015.

Some of His Donaldness has rubbed off on this draw...4 other lefties have advanced.

I'm heading down to the Heineken Open today to watch Donald play "giant killer" Jiri Vesely (qualifier ranked #63). I'll post a pic later..

DY has no chance, Vesely is in a very good form and he has a much brighter future ahead of him than the overrated DY.

Well.. The Donald had Vesely out of position but blasted his forehand totally off to give Vesely match point and DF's to give Vesely the match.. really just sums up the entire game for him

he still have mental struggles even after all these years........just NOT mentally tough at all, NOT ATP tour level mental tough anyway.......

Is mental toughness just what you are born with or can it be taught ? Obviously Young never learned it....

A waste really. Today I came on board for the first time, and only because of Vesely who will break through this week and has a good future ahead of him.
In such an unheralded field a good player uses the opportunity, but obviously Young was not the one.
Both Poiulle and Vesely soon will be house hold names and they are only 20 and 21 respectively.
Young is a mediocre player overall.

Through to round 2. On side note, anyone know what strings DY is using? I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I'm too lazy to search for it. Thanks in advance.

Last time I checked he was a Solinco Tour Bite user. Is the new stick a Tecnifibre? If so, they like a package deal with their players.

Into the 2nd round! Haters can take a break.

(edit) lost in 2nd round, Haters can now resume trashing The Donald.

I heard Donald was a great doubles player, only reason he doesn't have 100 guys wanting to play with him every week is cause he has tendency to Rag or Put down his partner when things go Bad...................... Typical Amateur mistake..............LOL

Never really expected him to beat Raonic. But, a solid win in the first round followed by a loss to a Top 10 seed (if he does indeed end up losing) isn't anything to be ashamed of. Though, if he loses, he'll lose points since he lost in the third round last year. But, DY is settling well into being a journeyman. As long as he can keep his ranking in don't-have-to-qualify-for-Slams range, he could have a nice couple of years on tour.

DY is the Rodney Dangerfield of US tennis...hours of coverage for American teenager wannabes of the female persuasion and when he gets a featured night match on a show court, we only get "peek ins" of his match vs Raonic. I tell ya...no respect!

Donald looks like a boy among men. Just getting blown off the court by Raonic.

Career journeyman and another American bust.

Donald will have to work harder at the start of this year; since he lost second round! Last year DY made it to the third round in AO! So, that means more 250 tournaments to pad the points to get back to even going into the the FO! DY needs to keep his ranking the same as last year or he will have to doing qualifying again and that not something you ever what to do because you are playing two tournament if you get past the qualifying rounds and go into the main draw. That three matches already going into the main draw! Tire?????? you bet!

He has become a pro, and solid challenger tour player, ok he's had a few wins but hasn't preformed like most of the post Sampras Agassi generation mostly subpar results excluding roddick. I think he peaked as a solid junior player but stopped evolving and who knows if he could get a former pro great to coach would it really matter at this stage?
He's a pro, made the tour, makes a living playing tennis but hasn't the games to really crack the top tier IMO

Milos said after beating Young that he used to keep an eye on the Donald's matches a couple of years back, when all the up-and-coming hype was on the Donald. How things turn in a couple of years!

Good win vs a hot player and he gets the Kudla/Kokkinakis in 2R. He is 4-1 vs Kudla at Tour level, the last two at Memphis (trading beatdowns, 1&1 for Kudla in '14). Young beat Kokki last year on their only meeting, a Challenger match last spring. Will he cheer for Kokki???

When he practices with juniors and gets bossed around by his mother coach it's not too far off.

During his match at the AO James Blake was saying that him and Roddick extended a hand and told Donald to come down to FL and practice with them. Blake said that he only has juniors to hit with in Atlanta, but that he never accepted his offer. Pretty amazing and telling that he wouldn't want to hit and get advice from guys that had very successful careers. I guess his mom knows more than those two.

Maybe he couldn't, had a good reason.

still 56 in the world. People are making fun out of him on here like the guy is 500 or something.

It was the americans who hyped the kid as a junior, not him.

This is a long-running complaint against Donald.

Pat McEnroe was probably the one who spread the story about Donald turning down the opportunity to practice with Nadal (this was long ago) in the off-season.

Good to see him rise in the rankings, but I never expect to see Donald as a top 20 player.
