The Donald looking good vs Kudla...up a set and a break. Can he close???
He can and did! DY with some confidence and momentum atm.
Donald finally living up to his promise and on his way to being a multiple slam champion? He's looking goooood.
Did it on his second serve strength...only 46% 1st serves in but won more than 75% of his total service points. Will have to do better vs Tomic.
V. Tomic could be an interesting match. Hopefully it will good quality and competitive one.
The Donald is "walking in Memphis, his feet 10 feet off the ground"...in the SFs of both singles and dubs!
The Donald is always weak in the 1000 and GS matches. I would love to see him make past the three round and into at least the quarters. That would bring him into the top 20s!
He made the 3R at 2 slams last year. That's pretty solid for somebody of his ranking. Making the quarters is pretty exclusively top 10-20 range players. Donald isn't quite good enough, but at least he's settled into a solid career, rather than lingering outside the top 100.
Just out of curiosity, who was the last player outside the top 50 to make a slam quater? TTW statisticians, I know you have my back!! haha
Tomic at Wimbledon 2011. Was ranked #158. Actually I think Kyrgios was just out the Top 50 when he made the QFs at AO this year. So him. Yep, ranked #53 in the world, and moved up to #35 after the AO.
Thanks. Wow total brainfart on my part forgetting Kyrgios.
Also, Nick at '14Wimby.
The Donald has hands full today with the South African in the semi-finals Memphis 250
My God Donald just destroyed andersons first serve to get the break!
Donald got new racquet and surrenly GOATs...
the Donald 6-4 1st set
Falling off on serve in this second set. Must regroup if he wants a spot in the final.
13.02.2015 QF D Young defeats B Tomic 76(8) 46 75 in Memphis!
What you thinking now! The Donald will be in the Semis of a 250!
It too bad he faces Kevin Anderson! I don't believe The Donald has ever won against him but The Donald came close the last time around! Hope for the best!
Good run for The Donald but he kinda beat himself today vs KAndyman, dipping way below 50% 1st serves over the last two sets. That doesn't win vs top 20 players often.
Let's hope he advances in the dubs later on!
Nice run from Donald. Other than his first serve percentage I think he played a pretty good match from what I saw. Hopefully he gained some confidence this week that he can build on.
On a side note, Arias from Tennis Channel was dogging on Tomic last night. It was pretty funny hearing him assess Bernard's game.
The Donald starting his dubs SF after 11pm and following the NishiQuerrey thriller.
Nice dubs wins for Young & Sitak for a place in the finals!
Young/Sitak lose the finals 8-10 in the SuperTB.
Delay Beach in Las Vegas is Donald next tournament. Donald is playing Ivan Dodig. And if he wins this match; Sam Querry could by his opponent if he wins his first round.
I think it's sponsored by the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas. Not actually played there. I have been wrong many times before however.
Ftfy. It's just sponsored by the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas for some reason.
Would like to see another deep run to back up the Memphis result but it's a tough draw and we all know the Donaldcoaster takes us on some wild rides.
DY on the court now vs Dodig. Will be a tough one.
DY thru in straights, 5 & 5. Plays clay courter Gonzalez next. Draw shaped up pretty good for DY. Winner of his match plays winner of Smyzcek/Dolgopolov for a spot in the semis.
First set to The Donald
DY on too the R8 quarter finals to play the winner of T. Smyczek vs
A. Dolgopolov , next up at Delray Beach Open
GSM for The Donald in LXVII minutes. Saving all his NRG for the QFs. Hail Donald!
What's up with DY? Through last year and into this year, he's achieved some stability. No the results aren't overwhelming, but much better than I would have expected after his considerable down period. No, he's not going to be a breakout star at this point. But, he's making a career of it. If he can maintain his Top 40-60 (even just Top 100) journeyman status for a couple of years, where he doesn't have to qualify for Slams, that would be pretty good. And, I'm thinking he could be a pretty good doubles player with the right partner.
What is he doing better? Is he fitter (IMO he is)? Or, has he just finally played on tour enough that he "gets" it. He understands the highs and lows, he understands that there are no easy matches, he understands that you can't pack it and lose your head in just because you lose your break lead -- and if you have OK talent (which he does) and work ethic and stick at it, you might see some results.
We talk a lot about how players peak later these days. Maybe that's true across the board, not just for the very top guys.
^^^Add in the stick switch to Tecnifibre as part of the new DY success recipe.
I have to believe that somewhere on Young's Playlist is the classic from Biz Markie, Vapor.
Really hoping he keeps this up
A win vs The Dog will be his biggest scalp since taking down Anderson in Washington's QFs last August.
Another week, another SF! Turning the corner it seems.
Very good win
Great win, Donald! You are playing unbelievably! You can win this tournament!
Great couple of weeks for him, hope he can be consistent for the rest of the year !
The cool thing about Young playing well; no more dumb cracks about him flipping burgers or getting wildcards.
Finally The Donald is becoming the GOAT!!!
Can he reach his second ATP final or, perhaps, even win his first title???
Well, he's playing someone he beat last week - though the match was VERY close and Tomic is very talented -- so it's a tossup. I don't know who the switch from indoor to outdoor will favor.
I think tomic will win this time. He's playing very well.
The Donald is taking one match at a time and beating top 20 player. Everything looks like he is now on to the next level of play.
Where is the live stream???
Match point for DY up 5-2 in the 3rd.
And the win on MP #2! His second final tomorrow.
