I think Wawrinka's emergence since their '11 match under Norman's tutelage will be enough to avoid another upset but The Donald's win four years ago will make this a mind game for Stan to overcome.

If, you are wondering why all the "celebration", just go through some of earlier posts on this thread. Young has been dumped on mercilessly here.

To his detractors; it doesn't appear Young will be flipping burgers anytime soon.

It was so touching to see DY's ESPN interview . They purposely asked for his low points in life and he did not hesitate to talk about his 17 match loss streak from Feb to Aug 2012.

He said he cannot let down Mike Russell in Mens doubles , since this is his last major. He said same thing in mixed with Taylor, where they lost in SF and he has promised her to try harder this year. I just hope he has energy left in the tank, as he would need that against Stan.

As much as I like Stan, I would be very happy for DY to upset him.

You have to enjoy success like this. Seems to have come back to the basics for DY. Basically started out a star, huge expectations - failed to meet them. Went to obscurity (relatively) and now in the last year has put in the work and is seeing the fruits of his labour.

I'm a huge fan of Stan the Man but would love an upset here.

I think the crowd could play a factor in upsetting Stan here.

Anyone know which court this match will be played on?

Night match for Ashe would not be bad. avoid a clash with Isner-Fed . play Murray-Anderson at Louis Armstrong

I'm not sure that the crowd's support of Donald would work against Stan. He generally doesn't seem bothered by partisan crowds but by more random things in the crowd, like some drunk guy calling out and things like that. He played extremely well in the Davis Cup final and has generally played better in Davis Cup away from his own home crowd that at home. He played Andy tough at Wimbledon in 2009 (and Roger in 2014, until he got too sick).

I think the main problem with Stan will be between his ears. And if Donald plays well, then he'll essentially have to battle two opponents.

I think someone could hand Chris Evert a racket and she could beat the hapless Young. He's a choker with no game. It's a miracle he's even in the 16's at a major. He generally doesn't even win challengers!

Next for The Donald is The Man! In 2011, at the U.S. open, The Donald took out The Man! Let see if The Donald can do it again!

Just maybe The Donald has gotten to be a better touring pro now!

Would count him out! He is The Donald and has a new girlfriend too! That makes a lot of difference since "love" means something to him now!

He has skill, he has belief, and he has a lot of support, which gives him more belief and sharpens his focus for his skills to shine through. He's having a great tournament.

Funny. You're calling a guy who just won 2 matches after being 2 sets down a choker.

No one is saying he's a world beater. And it's highly unlikely he will beat Wawrinka (I would give him a 1/10 chance because I am feeling generous). None of that changes the fact that it is nice to see someone battling back from the lowest of lows and showing some success in difficult conditions (down 2 sets to 0 twice).

He got to the semis of Memphis and won Delray. He was not the favorite in his previous 2 matches, I ask why not?
Not unrealistic to think he will give Stan a run for the money.

The Donald is 0-2 in ATP finals (Bangkok'11, Delray'15).

It was a close match; but The Man just was too strong for The Donald today! On a positive note; he made it to the fourth round and was close to The Man who is ranked #5!

Congrats to The Donald for making it to the 4th round! Maybe next year; make it into the round of 16 and maybe beyond!

good for DY, if he can get his mental game in check, he has the tools to be a consistent Top15-20 guy, not sure he will get much higher, but if his mental game gets stronger he will not have the roller coaster ranking highs and lows

Very happy for him. He noted that he was working harder on his fitness which helped him come back during those matches.

So I just realized that until Federer, the Donald was the only player to take a set off Wawrinka.

He's still reasonably young, so hopefully he can continue improving and start having an even greater impact in GSs.

His first final was in Bangkok, very soon after his first nice run at USO. Maybe he'll pull off another run in Asia or Europe this fall.

Oh! Back to first round exit? Donald needs to step it up....again. But he in the 50s still! But The Donald could have gone to 30s if he went to the fourth round in the Asia stop.

Watching the Don play, and win, at the Swiss Open. He is still pimpin' the Boast apparel but he was wearing Nike shoes again. Does anybody know if he has a new shoe deal with Nike, or are those just his faves when there is no sponsorship deal?

After struggling vs WC Laaksonen, I did not see DY competing vs Anderson. I certainly didn't see a 6-2 first set for The Don. Headed to a TB in the second after holding MP on KA's serve.

So, what's up with this guy, he seems so up and down? One minute he's beating top 20 players and in the fourth round of the US OPEN the next he's clobbered by WCs

With age he should become better, mentality was always his biggest problem. Didn't he lost around 16 straight matches in 2012 which was some kind of record for the ATP Tour.

His play is not all that unusual for someone ranked in his range (typically around 40-70). Most players in his range have similar up and down results as him and that's why they are ranked where they are. He has a couple of big wins recently, but its not enough of a sample size to say that it is any sort of trend yet.

I would be surprised if he is able to beat Sock.

Take another player in Young's ranking range and check out his results. I happened to click on Gabashvili. He has wins this year over Murray, Isner, Lopez, and Troicki as well as plenty of losses against players ranked much lower than him. Donald Young is a solid top 60 player for the past few years. His results will tend to be inconsistent because he isn't better than he is just like most other players ranked near him.

It's not that often that two players meet to create a (somewhat) understandable phrase: Young Sock.

Can anyone think of other amusing match-ups like this?

You mean Bautista-Agus Tsonga doesn't mean anything to you?

Haha just joking, but I was thinking Fish would go well as one of the pair. Young Fish actually sounds like a more understandable phrase.

I looked through the rankings and hardly any of the players have last names that are also normal words. Most likely this is because most of the players are from other countries and use different languages. There are probably many players whose last names are also normal words in their countries language.

Is Donald completely happy with his new Solinco Hyper G string ?? I was told by Solico, actually originally Hyper G was designed for Donald with his input. and it turned out to be a great string and now they are marketing it to the public in different gages.

The Donald this time got into the quarters! That is a major achievement such a top ranked draw in the Swiss tournament. If The Donald and improve a little more, it is possible that The Donald could make it into the quarters of the Australian Open in 2016 which is only two months away!

He was impressive and played well winning the first set. Then, he reverted back to his junior style of play. Too many balls down the middle, too little aggressiveness. Too predictable and basic for Sock. Could have easily been in the semis.
