Long way to go for them to surpass Martina/Pam.
J Murray/Soares smoke the new French duo Mannarino/Pouille 3&1. @tipsa...don'tlikehim! doesn't like them!
Fantastic from Jamie and Bruno, fingers crossed Jamie gets a slam after making his 3rd final in a row!
Wow Nestor Steps are 80 years young (combined). They will kill the Murraysaurus to raise the trophy.
Imagine ages 37 and 43 making a grand slam final.
Fedovic in nine years!
So, Mirza/Dodig took out Hingis/Paes in the mixed semis. I have a hazy memory that Paes dumped Mirza for Hingis and that Mirza was upset about it (and of course now Hingis and Mirza are partners in women's). The whole thing seems rather Peyton Place lol. Still bad blood between Mirza/Paes? Was it an awkward match, or lots of comraderie? Anyone know?
Also, Coco and Tecau won their semi to face Mirza/Dodig in the final. Do they stand a chance?
Tecau is a wizard, giving his team a good chance any match.
That match was the quarters, Mirza/Dodig are currently playing Vesnina/Soares (Mirza's partner last year) to make the final. Paes & Mirza have differences going all the way back to last Olympics with the Indian Tennis Federation, nothing to do with Hingis, but everyone was fine with the handshakes.
As for the match, first set was decided in a breaker, second was pretty straightforward for Mirza/Dodig. Paes did not serve well, & started to look his age a little.
And Vesnina/Soares won the first set, up 2-1 in the second now.
Mirza/Dodig save a MP, 5-all.
Sania serving for the set.
Broken, breaker coming.
Vesnina/Soares win to make the final!
Mirza & Soares hug at net, so they appear to still be cool with each other.
SATURDAY, 30 JANUARY 2016
Doubles - Final
 J. Murray (GBR)/Soares (BRA) vs. Nestor (CAN)/Stepanek (CZE)
Need to change that Olympics. Verdasco probably not going to qualify. Melo/Soares will of course have a run which result in hardware of some colour!
Bamos Belo Horizonte.
@spystud @stringertom thanks for the answers and the updates. I fell asleep right after I posted last night lol. Was happy to wake up and have my burning questiins answered
Coco already makes me laugh with her swagger...would be fun to see how she is with a major title to back it up
It's the Vandeweghe way, no? Lots of athletes and beauty queens in her family tree!
I'd just like to reserve this spot to say how absolutely atrocious Eurosport's coverage is of doubles tennis. It's compounded by the fact I get it from sky, an English network. So they prattle on endlessly about the Brits and spend hours on coverage that could go to other matches.
I need ESPN.
Come on Jamie/Bruno!
Last 5 mens doubles champs all first timers. So 10 new champs in total. (8 of last 9 (16/18) too since start of 2014)
2015 Simone Bolelli Fabio Fognini
Ivan Dodig Marcelo Melo
Jean-Julien Rojer Horia Tecău
Pierre-Hugues Herbert Nicolas Mahut
2016 Jamie Murray Bruno Soares
I am counting this as a correct prediction, geography doesn't matter. 1/1
Congrats to Murray/Soares , blnt Nestor /Steps
Soares goes for the double dubs dip. Good luck Bruno!
Starting now on Tennis Ch in the States. Vesnina/Soares v. Vandeweghe/Tecau.
Plenty of good seats still available on Laver.
Vesnina/Soares take the first.
Wow Coco's overhead!
Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva were a dominant force in women's doubs in the 90s -- (as a team) from '92 to '97. They won 14 slam doubles titles together. In the Open era, their success as a doubles team was 2nd only to Martina N & Pam S . When they first partnered up, they won 6 successive doubles slam titles together -- from the FO 92 to Wimby 93.
In '97, they won 2 of the 3 slams they played together (they lost in the finals at the USO that year). Gigi retired from playing pro tennis later that year. Natasha had played and won with another partner for AO 97. That partner was Martina Hingis.
Playing a super tiebreak next.
Vesnina/Soares win. Not the highest quality you'll ever see.
Soares with the doubles title sweep nice.
