What does that have to do with his comments? He mentioned his goals, to be at the top of the game, and what it means to him. What he says should be echoed by every player on tour who loves tennis, regardless of their ability to win a slam or not.
How fast is the new surface at Acapulco playing?

Dubai is from all reports still as fast as any hard court on tour while IW/Miami are both ultramafic magma slow. Acapulco might be better preparation. The fact that Acapulco is only a short flight and a two hours time zone difference from IW might also be a factor.

I don't think Ernie will do all that well in Mexico but he may well be thinking ahead by putting himself in the best position for IW.

He's a seed at IW so he gets a bye and probably doesn't play until Saturday or Sunday...plenty of time to recover from jet lag. Dubai would have given him a shot at some of the top guns he needs to beat for confidence going in. It's good either way, as both are 500's but I think HCs, no matter the speed are where you stay on until after Miami. Lots of clay to play into form before RG.

Well, Gublis will have time to get ready for Indian Wells and adjust to the time zone and desert climate.

This is ridiculous for players with such poor careers (for the moment at least).

What?!?!? From acapulco to IW is like 2 hours trip anf then to Miami... Why would he fly 5 hours to Dubai and then 12 hours to get to L.A.-IW... ???

Ernest had already beaten: Mug, Berdych, ********, Tsonga, (some other top 10's?)

    Young beat: umm? *scratch, scratch*

Um, your post gives me the impression that you might be unaware that Acapulco is a hard court tournament now?

Very impressive double breadstick baking for The Ernests today. Lu is usually a tougher out.

Maybe Lu is still injured, he retired from his last two tournaments; perhaps he made a guest appearance to pick up some cash though I doubt it's worth the travel.

Either way, Goffin is up next. Should be an easy win considering the form both men are in. Goffin is slowly regaining his level from 2012 though.

Difficult win over Goffin 7-6 in the third but still on an impressive 12-3 w/l streak in 2014 for the Earnest...next round against Dimitrov will be interesting, couple of weeks only after Rotterdam

I don't think Gulbis will win tomorrow. Fatigue has got him. Better stay fresh for IW.

Indeed. After two hard 3 setters, better he get some rest and come back strong in IW/Miami for a few big upsets again

With his new higher ranking he will have to play into the draw quite deeply to pull off upsets. What a difference a year has made for him in terms of the path to glory...no more qualies and first round byes at both IW and Miami. IIRC, he skipped Miami last year so a solid run at both will move him even higher.

Hmmm....not sure of the reference, though I do think Roger is as sexy as a fruit bat.

Ernie cleans up nicely, but he's much too mercurial for me. He'll have to sleep on the futon in the studio.

He's golden in finals (5-0) but they're all 250 trophies. It'll be a tough sled to bag a MS1000 but he's a viable contender with a direct-in and a bye as a seed. Good luck!

He's ready for the Dimi-rematch. Let's hope Dimi makes it there. With Berdych out, both have a great chance of going all the way to the semis.

Btw - am I the only one who see some Marat in Gulbis? And what would it take for Gulbis to become the great Marat's true heir on tour?

No, I want him to get to the top of the game. Tennis needs a bad boy.

I don't think he could become as good as Safin with his forehand preparation time though.

Huge chance for either The Ernests or BabyFed to quarter or better after Berd flu and Kohlie-itis, at the hands of wounded Lu. Sir John's ankle won't withstand a full frontal attack from either if he gets through. RBA might be the toughest test.

Ernie slew the Spaniard to move on to the QF! I think he has a decent enough chance to get by Isner/Verdasco as well. Good tournament for the guy.

he fought hard today. in play and mentally. even talked about that to the trainer? not sure i caught it all on espn3, but sounded like it anyway. referred to mental stress as the onset for cramps. might have heard wrong...

still, he didn't break any racquet in the last match, did he ? ;)
those matches with guys like isner are never easy for anybody... but the biggest disappointement comes from the fact he had his chances.

let's hope the gulb will do even better in miami. :)

Sorry Gulbis but the Djokovicmentum must continue. Looking forward to your MC draw. Though I won't be sad if he wins against Novak. :)
