seppi can play, he won't miss a ton of balls and will make gulbis earn it. a good test, nadal/gulbis could be a lot of fun.

I really like his game. The FH motion looks a little funky and it can break down it times, but if he is focused he can improve that and become a top player. He has the ability to hurt you in a variety of ways.

I won't be surprised if the QF match up turns out to be: [Q] Ernest Gulbis v [2] Roger Federer

He still has to beat Seppi, who is a very solid top 20 player who won't be beating himself like Tipsarevic did yesterday. Let's hope Ernie can do it! :)

Gulbis' path to the IW title in earnest: Nadal, Federer, Berdych/Murray, Djoko. Previously done by Nalbandian (not at IW).

Sounds like the prematch evaluation of the Delray SF vs Haas. Mission accomplished with some grinding...Haas definitely had his chances but The Ernests responded. Minus the shbh, Seppi is quite like Tommy.

I expect this to go three...hopefully not to a decisive TB like vs. Haas. Gulbis 6-3 in the third!

Great to see Gulbis moving on.
He may get past Seppi, Nadal doesn't look to good yet and may pull out because of the bad knees.

It looks like Miami is done giving out their WCs, and Gulbis is not one of them. Am I to understand that, despite this incredible run and him now being ranking well within the Top 96 (and still climbing), he'll need to play several qualifying matches again just to reach a 96-player main draw?

I don't see it at all. Haas has a much bigger serve and looks to play attacking tennis much more than Seppi. Tommy also has more on the variety department.

Either way, it's looking like Gulbis is going to tear through the draw.

Doesn't this mean that Gulbis could make the main draw?

    http://www.sonyopentennis.com/Players/Player-Landing.aspx

He's already ranked 67 and will likely move even higher at the end of IW (i.e. a day before the seedings date for Miami).

So let's hope Gulbis gains enough points to earn a seed? What round would he need to make in order to be seeded for Miami?

Entry list is by rankings at entry closing date - thus Gulbis doesn´t cut the main draw. He would obviously be top seed in qualies as he would be highest ranked qualifier at seeding date.

Maybe he does....Federer withdrew from the event. They should give him a WC if he has to play Quallies. That is brutal if he does get far.

Gulbis should have received a wild card at Delray - he didn't, he should have receicved a wild card at IW - he didn't. He should tell Miami to stick it. These tournaments keep giving wild cards to people like Donald Young and Michael Russell. Why are they so special? Why do the fans want to see them?

Gulbis came to Delray as a previous champion. Not only that but he had shown fantastic form in Rotterdam and Marseille, losing to Del Potro and Berdych respectively (both in close matches) and had to fly trans-Atlantic to play Qualies almost immediately. It was farcical and actually made me quite angry! Then, he wins Delray, making a mockery of their wild card joke, he then receives no WC again for IW, and now this crap that he has to qualify for Miami?

This guy will more than likely take out Rafa Nadal in the 4th round here - if he does that, and then runs Federer close, or indeed beats him (like he has done in a Masters before), he should 100% tell Miami to stuff their tournament. He doesn't need it. He can take a well earned rest and prepare for the clay.

it would be pretty absurd for Gulbis to have to qualify for Miami.

The guy just took out the world number 9, has won an atp250 event and has won 12 straight matches and counting... Who is going to get the Wild Cards instead?!

I hope earnests skips Miami if he has to play quailes. he has expressed before how he does not like to play the quailes because of the way the players are treated, and with all the tennis he has been playing recently, he may start to get bored or burnt out and become unmotivated again. I think it would be best for him to rest his body for the clay season and further work on his game ( skipping the Aussie is proof), particularly his forehand.

i don't think he should skip Miami. He should keep playing. He's young and will have had enough rest, unless he wins Indian Wells!

    Here is something funny.

In Delray, before the match, they had a "Keys to the Match Presented by Champion Porsche" thing on the TV.... For Gulbis, it was "Play Big Man Tennis". Apparently he has been playing big man tennis. I took a picture of it... Maybe I can post it if anybody needs proof....

I don't get why Gulbis wouldn't get a wild card.
He just won a tournament, is entertaining on the court with some good tennis.

Fans got the word on his play and want to see him.
He gets fired up, breaks rackets and argues with the chair. :like:
    The interviews are good too.

Gulbis won't have to worry about it for long though it appears.

Just so you know, I'm not getting any virus messages. I don't know what you can make of that, but it might not be a problem with your page. I did get a notification telling me to run some add on after about a minute though.

Gulbis is freakin around right now.

You gUys said he was playing amazing, although he is playing good and taking it seriously, I was expecting bombs.

    Bombs

Prime Safin type of game play.

Here we go, people on this forum who have never played at I high level in their life, saying this is amazing.

    I shouldve expected this.
