Will Nadal win the 2009 FO? Or will it be Federer?

    Wake me when it's over.

What we need is a thread where we say who we think will win the FO if it isn't Nadal or Federer. And to keep it interesting, how about we break it down into who we think *will* win if Nadal and Federer fall short, and also who we'd like to see win.

I think the next most likely to win after Nadal and Federer is Djokovic. No big surprise there, I admit.

My sentimental favorite, the player I would most like to see Get It Done and win the thing is . . . Verdasco. He seems a bit fragile mentally, though, so I fear a huge collapse if he does make the final. :wrings hands:

I say that with my deepest apologies to Gonzalez and Tsonga. I still feel bad for both of them that they weren't able to win a slam when they had the chance.

  2. If Nadal and Federer fall short, then:

    Novak Djokovic and Ernests Gulbis

Yawn at this thread. We can sit here and discuss hundreds of players who have a .01 percent chance of winning the french open but there is no point in that. It is really evident that Nadal will blitz through everyone if he is healthy and the only men who can trouble him for maybe a set and a half are djokovic and federer.

I posted odds close to these some time ago:
    Nadal 98%
    Djokovic 1%
    Federer 0.5 %
    Other 0.5 %

    They are still accurate.

Monfils -- Bless his heart, but I don't see him ever winning much of anything. He lacks the courage to hit winners, and you can't win a slam these days by retrieving.

Simon -- Nope, can't see it. He seems only to have one gear and no huge weapons.

I'm surprised no one has picked Del Potro.

Don't look at me. I think he's way too one-dimensional to get it done right now.

It appears the love affair around here for Tsonga has died off also. Musta been puppy love . . .

My dark, dark, dark horse pick would be Gulbis. Sadly, my head says there is no way in heck that is going to happen.

Not Murray... if it's not Nadal or Fed, it's gotta be Djoker. Monaco maybe? He beat Murray! lol.

Oh, that Gulbis is such a *tease,* isn't he? Fabulously wealthy, soft hands, power and grace. Yet like most men I have fallen for, he won't do the one thing I want.

No, I don't mean marry me. The guy won't *win* for me.

^^ Seriously, he draws us in with those pouty lips, powerful groundstrokes and eccentric ball flick before his serve. What a tease. ;)

Baghdatis used to be a tease also. All that bouncing the balls between the legs before serving.

And then he went all Corporate on me. Cut the ponytail. Stopped the cool bouncing routine.

    And he started losing.

He broke my heart, he did. . . . I would so love him to fix himself and get back on top. So to speak.

Geez, I hope she wins for the women. It has become *so* painful watching her struggle.
