I don't believe it had bounced at all. Huge fail.

And so it goes. Pretty much everything wrong here . . . .

Well if tennis doesn't work out. I think he can try for the pommel horse in the individual gymnastics competition in the upcoming Olympics.

    Such great form!

    Que MAgnifico!

    Shame he's a complete idiot

Depending on the crowd, he could have been booed for trying something like that. You might do that when you're up a set and 5-0 but even then it's still insulting to your opponent and to the people watching. And about the shot: He looked like a complete fool. The shot wasn't good at all, too soft and right in Haas' racket. When you're doing something stupid like that, at least try to make it a winner (or UE), what the hell was this supposed to be?

oh gael, you're such an idiot. you make a routine overhead into a stupid clown act, then you lose the point.

watch it on replay, then you can retire and realize you don't take anything seriously

he is attractive to watch, but that's why he'll never go deeper.
btw - he sometimes acts very full of himself which i hate. i know this might be his way of getting confidence but it just looks bad.

I really have no idea why Monfils hit that amazing trick overhead in Halle. The outcome of the match was still very much in question and a simple smash would have almost surely won the point.

Do you think there is some smart calculation to build momentum at a key point in the match and/or get the crowd on his side?

Or is the problem that he is just not thinking?

    He was GOATing.

I do the same thing when I hit topless against the West 4th street handball court while all of the Mexican handball GOATs watch me GOAT.

I miss the old Gael, along with his previous hairstyle. Does anyone know what his tattoo says?

If Sleepy Stan can have one amazingly lucky run to get a major title, I think Monfils could do the same.

And it would be so much more fun to watch, better for the sport, etc.

The last time I watched him (I think he was in Germany) he had his game face on and was playing lights out tennis. I must have literally slept through his play in this year’s AO.

    You mean Halle?
Because I saw him there last year. He played amazingly, it was great fun to watch and he really won himself quite a number of new fans there!

LaMonf has fans everywhere.......only losers and sourpusses complain about him. Awesome to have a player play for the joy of the game.

What's "lucky" about beating the top 2 players in the world to win a Slam? What would be "better for the sport" would be to have a clown who doesn't respect the game OUT of the game...

That was probably it. If memory serves, he pulled out of Wimbledon right after he played there (Halle).

    Yep. Must have been Halle.
Well I enjoyed him a lot over there. He was in full clown-mode but more important, he played great tennis.

Too bad his clownery gets him injured so often, but at least it looks like he's always having fun on court. :)
