I can't believe I ever thought Kvitova was a great player. Fluke performance at Wimbledon when she won it.

Wow. All top 8 seeds except Kerber (who lost respectably to Barthel) in the quarters. The WTA really is starting to build up some goodwill again.

    Vika/Errani
    Aga/Woz
    Stosur/Maria
    Serena/Kvitova

    Some interesting match-ups.
    - Vika/Errani should be done in under an hour.
    - Aga/Woz hard to predict. Aga 1.0 was Woz's puppet. Now that there is a chance that Woz 1.5 has emerged, how will it turn out against Aga 2.0.
    - Stosur/Maria - Sam on could give her trouble (what is their H2H?) Here's hoping it's a decent match, but you gotta go with the favorite.
    - Serena/Kvitova - Serena's had a lot more "on" days than Kvitova these days, and Serena's "off" days aren't nearly as bad as Kvitova's. Still, if both show up....who knows.

No I am not bitter, I am not a Serena fan but the truth is the truth and the truth is Sloane is overrated.

And Barthel lost respectably to Stosur. So all is respectable there..

We have to figure out how Errani hangs with big girls so well..

Didn't see the match, but Kvitova's score against Petrova almost scared me again..

Yes things are getting more interesting in women's tennis..

    Yes yes yes..

Steady Errani, like Aga, will always have a chance against someone like Kvitova, Stosur, Li, even Maria on an off day.

But Vika is as steady as Errani, plus has a killer's instinct when she has to. That is why Vika is such a bad matchup for most of the defensive players.

    good summary..

can't hide.. my adrenalin is already rising for Kvitova-Serena clash tomorrow.

agree.. tomorrow's showdown depends on which Kvitova shows up.

make it good Petra, make it good.

Yeah. That has about a 15% chance of being the match of the season. And an 85% chance of being unwatchable.

I watched part of Barthel-Woz match, i would not go that far calling Woz 1.5, if anything she is 0.95
Plus, Aga won last 2 matches in straight, and last time she lost to inform Woz was in 3 tight sets

Stosur certainly has a chance at beating Sharapova with the way Maria is serving. 9 double faults today.

Azarenka may as well have been given a walk-over. If Radwanska loses to Wozniacki then she should re-evaluate her career. Stosur likely to get straight-setted in little over an hour. The only interesting matchup would be from Serena/Petra, and that's because Serena hasn't served great this tournament and is assuming Kvitova plays up to her potential. I still smell a straight set Serena victory.

she is and she isn't. she has talent but just like my two favs, fed and serena after their big wins over sampras and hingis, it took them a while to dominate. but that being said she wouldn't have beaten a healthy serena.

I really hope Serena retires soon, i get sick of her winning all the time. May sound a bit bitter but i feel a lot of other people feel the same way.

    that's if

not her career, her mental approach and her coaching
in one match she can be such a chameleon
she has tools to beat anyone on WTA, yes, even the big hitters
but she is not mentally ready for that, not yet and that's why I said the above

Agree with this more than other assessments, but think it's a little hard line...

Rad losing to a resurgent (overstating it maybe) Wozni wouldn't be 'what's wrong with her' status. It'd be disappointing for her, but no time to hand the tennis bat to Ursula.

Sugar and Vika (<3) I agree with, w/o territory. And yes, expecting a Serena beat down but hoping for Kvitova to turn up

    lol ... good one! ;)

K so .... why do aussies call matches "games"

not all the time but at least half the time when it's an aussie talking they'll say, for example, "that was a great game," when what they're referring to is actually a match.

aussies are the only ones who do that AFAIK . . .

    thx, :)

Now that, I cannot answer. There are probably more substantial things to worry about though, even in tennis. And, it's 11 months until the Australian Open, so you won't be exposed to it for a while.

Back to the tennis - I'm looking forward to the QueenVictoriaus' game against Errani, should be an easy one for her to win.

pfffff ... "queen" just doesnt fit her. she's more of a mean girl on steroids. i give her credit for grit and guts and fight, but she's rotten with that hindrance hoot of hers. still, she's not as loud as shriekapova, so gotta be thankful for small things.

p.s. that answer about aussies makes me suspicious that you are not one. either that or you're a newbie tennis fan ... which is it? :???:

Looks like I was wrong about Stosur...take 2 points in first 3 games of second...

And then breaks back! A meaningless break back, no doubt.

    Dangerous...can't see it myself.

Viky 4-1 up first set over Errani. She opened the door briefly for the Italian, for fun, before shreiking it shut in her face.

Kvitova dominating. This is how she played at Wimbledon such a long, long time ago. This is why I thought she would be so great but she can't sustain it I guess...

totally different kvitty than she was against robson ... woot ... thank goodness ..... lookin calm and cool ... main thing she needs to do is keep her errors down and move serena around ..... kvitty consolidates her break .... serene serving to stay in the set 2-5, started shrieking when she was about to go down a break, but it didnt help, so s.williams back to playing quiet ... nice ... deuce
