Just saw the THE GOLDEN COMPASS. Man, was I diissappointed. First of all, the PG rating severely crippled it. The casting was pretty good, the effects were good, but the screenplay just missed the essence and spirit of the book. The changes that Chris Weitz (screenwriter & director) took the liberty to change were all to the detriment to the final product IMO. The relationships of the character to each other, to events, etc. just weren't developed enough in the first act. Felt like I was watching a movie on a DVD where it's broken up into 5 minute blocks but I only get to watch the first minute of each block and am forced to continually skipped ahead. I am probably being a little hard on the film but only because I liked the book and thought it could have been a great movie. Sort of like LOTR. What are some good movie adaptations that people like? GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS was good.
