There was some talk about creating this thread a while back but it never actually happened. So, I took it upon myself to make it.

This thread is for users of ANY model of the great Prestige Mid. Feel free to post questions, discuss your setups and of course post pics of your current or classic Prestige Mids.

What's your guys' lead setups? I feel the prestige mid can use a bit customization to my preferred SW of around 340

Though they are all great frames, there is just something particular about the mid. It's the least accessible of all the frames and usually attracts a different kind of player.

Interesting you mention that. Some people like it with some lead and others don't. I'm just having leathers and a little lead added to match up the frames and keep the balance.

A little equipment check for the club:

I have a lot of 'loaners'- i.e.- 1timers... sticks that are must haves... 1-K90, 1-Prince Ozone Pro Tour, 1-Yonex RDS 001 Mid, 1-K88 and 1-KBlade98

But my main frames are the MGPresMids-- 4 of them (was 5- until this past summer, one became a victim of an 'OG malfunction' and was sacrificed on serve in the scorching summer heat).

So, I was left with an extra-handle, now I have 4 MGPresMids @27.3in. long with 7grams total (under the bumper) @ 3&9 o'clock. Simple set-up.

    Synthetic grips and 1 OG. Luxilon BBAce 18g, mains @ 42lbs. & crosses @ 40lbs.

None of the sticks match (except for length) but are all within .2oz. of eachother (5-6grams) and all the same balance ... roughly. I haven't measured SW, but my calculations (using the swing method) put them all in the mid-upper 340's.

If it's any consolation, I love the MP as well. The mid just won me over.

I get my frames back this week but won't be playing with them due to injury. Will post the final specs once they are strung up.

I bought a microgel recently at a local shop. The guy at the shop told me that Head tends to vary in spec, so I asked him to measure stock sticks and pick the most head-light one.

He started with swing weight and picked two 278 ones while some of the others scored over 350. Unstrung measurement of the two were like this:

    A:
    Static weight: 335g
    Balance: 303mm
    Swing weight: 278

    B:
    Static weight: 325g
    Balance: 302mm
    Swing weight: 278

I picked A thinking B was more polarized. The guy then put some weight around the hoop to immitate strung value. He measured swing weight again that was about 300. I'm happy with what I got and the stick feels good so far.

^^Interesting that there was a 10g difference but SW and balance were so close.

I'm pretty sure no prestige mid including pro stock versions have a SW of 300 strung

He said that they were unstrung specs.

    My unstrung SW is 292.

Yes. I wonder how it happens if not being polarized. It was a little hard to make judgement over the two.

^^Reading that again that really doesn't seem right. Strung SW should be around 325.

I didn't really measured strung swing weight. It was immitation. I'm not sure how it differs from real stuff.

IIRC, adding string + damp + OG increases overall weight about 20-30g and SW by 40-50.

What are your guys' string setups? Right now I'm using WeissCannon Scorpion/ Gosen Micro both 1.22 at 54/52 lbs. I strung it about 2 weeks ago so the tensions dropped a bit. I feel a full Scorpion job will play better because I need that extra spin. I'm gonna try WC's Black5Edge in a week or so because I hear that string has all the same great qualities as other WC strings but with great spin potential. Btw I feel a full white bed of strings looks amazing and much better than black on a PC600 :)

Very nice ryushen! I really like the cushy yet firm feel that Head FC offers. It also looks very clean as well. The one thing I was disappointed by was that after I put a white overgrip on and took it off after a week, there was a lot of color loss. I didn't expect that at all seeing as it's such a fine product :(.

No matter what overgrip you put on the HEAD FC there will be a lot of color loss. It really is not a high quality grip..................

The only frame I've ever tried lead on was a head ti something I used during a match when my racket broke. I've been considering leading up my APDC but have never got around to it. How did you lead your PC, I may be interested in trying it.

I put 5 inches of 1/4 tape on each side across the 12 o clock region. So the lead stretched from the 6th main from the middle to the other side covering 12 mains. I really like the setup but I'm not really a strong guy :-?. On another note I feel like the PC has most of it's weight towards to tip so in other words I feel it's very polarized. It could be the reason I have difficulty slicing with it and how it creates a nice heavy ball.

Re the leathers, interesting how many people like the TW grips. Also heard a lot of good things about the Volk grips as well.

For me Head FC > Volkl > TW . I didn't think the TW was great like everyone claims. It's just good and adequate for me and they tend to vary in color as well for some reason. Volkl is more firm than FC and I like the cushy feel FC gives me. Nice on the hands. :)

What newer prestige feels closest to the Prestige Tour? I'm debating picking up a few youteks but might wait until the IG comes out if it really acts like twaron.

    Yes, I'm in

Yes, I do. It's name is TGK237.2 and it's close but nothing compares to the Prestige mid. It's just a different sensation when you hit that prefect shot the feedback is not the same, tgk is more comfy sord of slightly more muted feel, not a bad stick at all tho. Trying to get used to it but don't know if it's going to work.

I planning on purchasing an Prestige 93 in. These seems to be some questions as to which is the best racket that Head has made for hitting. PC600, Flexipoint, Microgel and now the Youtek. Plus, there is talk of specific molds like the A57??, etc... which I do not remember which name corresponds to which Head frame mold. If anyone can detail that out for me; so I can get more technical info; I would appreciate it too.

What is the difference between them and how great are the differences in feel between them?

Which models come with a cover? I purchase several rackets with no cover and I feel stupid putting a Wilson racket cover inside a Head racket. I am willing to pretty much decide on a racket to buy based on the quality of the racket cover and if it has an big inside pocket for valuables with a zipper that I am use to, instead of the cheap ID holder and nothing else! Many regular tennis players only bring a racket to play with; not a bag like the manufacturers would like them to do with a half a dozen rackets and the entire nine yards of stuff. I am one of these players and have been doing this since I was a child. Even some pros only bring a racket or two to practice with in private when their is not audience present. It is all a marketing plot to make you buy more stuff and drag it around everywhere like that is really cool to do.
