when he came to australia in the late 70's he used a yamaha. the 'k' may have been for klipspringer strings.

I saw him play at wimby and he used a Yamaha yfg then .. so did some other big servers like Hank Pfister.

Amaya served very very well he clocked that ball.

I only remember he used Yamaha

on side note, wheeeew he had breakpoint against Borg at Wimbledon, but the great Swede served his 2nd serve to Amaya's forehand, caught Amaya in shock and missed the return

For some reason, I also remember Amaya using a Kawasaki early on. I know he went to Yamaha, but I thought he was a Kawasaki Graphite Ruler user early on.

He definitely used a Kawasaki Graphite Ruler at some point, and not just Yamaha frames.

Somewhere, Victor Amaya's ears are burning!

He used a Kawasaki Graphite Ruler

Saw him use it at the US Pro Indoor in Philadelphia. Cliff Drysdale also use that model. I broke one and switched to the Red Rulerflex.
Jeff Austin used that frame when Tracy was using her Spalding http://www.woodtennis.com/new5lady1.jpg, which looked a lot like her old Kramer Autograph

I never saw him play, but I'd guess a 6'7" lefty swinging a hefty composite frame in those days brought a big, nasty serve. Did he?

It might even be a open throat wood composite like the Pro Shot.
The shaft of the Graphite Ruler is a bit more asymetric and in this shot the top and side of the racket seems to be of a lighter color than the shaft. Like if it's made of wood.

Thanks a lot Hanna19, but I remember very well him playing with a black graphite frame. What you say about the photo, could be artifacts of black and white.
