So happy for Rafa! He truly deserved what he achieved so far this year.

And yet, some users around here would say that cheering for Rafa is a difficult job haha :)

That was an incredible win last night, I thought joker was going to win the 3rd set and the match the way he started playing. I still don't know how rafa won that 3rd set unbelievable.

You guys should love this article. From SI.com, very well done :)

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/tennis/news/20130910/rafael-nadal-novak-djokovic-us-open-final/

    An excerpt:

And then came a sight that you could spend years on the pro tour and never see. Nadal's footwork is legendary, a key to his remarkable career, yet now his right foot snagged on the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium and he went down slow and fast, body parts flailing, bit by awkward bit. He looked like a man shoved hard onto a patch of ice.

"I never," Nadal said later, "thought I would fall down like this."

Still, there were two unusual things about his reaction: Instead of cushioning his fall, Nadal kept his eye on the ball and kept trying to swing. Over in Djokovic's box, his new coaching consultant, Wojtek Fibak, couldn't believe it.

"I was admiring him," said Fibak, the one-time mentor of Ivan Lendl. "Because he was falling in six or seven stages, and each stage he tried to hit the ball. He tried then ... and tried then ... and tried then ... and he still tried."

It's true. "Because until the last moment," Nadal said, "I thought that I will hit the ball."

I've stayed away from this forum for a couple of days because I didn't want my happy buzz harshed by some of the yahoos that post here but I'm glad I found this thread. #TeamRafa indeed. It's been a thrill to be a fan since 2005 but I think 2013 might be the most rewarding and exciting year yet. What a guy, and what an amazing tennis player.

Sorry but I don't. Nadal and his fans suffered all the way through 2011-2012 with loss after loss while Cvac and his mafioso team/family acted like a bunch of a-holes. Not to mention the ******* fans and the Fed fanatic bandwagoners that made life miserable on here for Nadal fans. No way do I feel bad for Cvac at all.

Going forward please feel free to distribute the updated pic below. I will probably create a new one using the picture from 2013 US Open.

Well said. I shamelessly do too. Well, well, said. To be a real deep Rafa fan is sometimes to not even look at the tennis shots but to look at the way he carries himself on the court. Off the court, he is a good-looking millionaire like all the rest, but on the court he is truly, truly one of a kind. All the pros have lined up to say the same thing again. This was the greatest accomplishment of his career. We should savor it; its likes might never come around again.

  15. This is exactly what I refer to when talk about the fedfans wishing death and dismemberment on Nadal. These tweets are tame compared to some of the stuff seen on these boards over the years, but at least now we have a saved record of some of it.

I didn't see the match but Congrats to you guys and Rafa. Unbeaten so far this year on HCs. Who would have thought that last year? lol. I was disappointed that neither Juan Martin nor Andy Murray could make the finals but I'm happy that djokovic didn't win. And now that Rafa has 13 majors, maybe he should take it easy a little bit and let Juan Martin or Andy win some :D

Just think if Rafa had focused more at Wimbledon..if he won Wimbledon he could've had the GOAT season.

True, but Nadal already has the greatest season: being the first man in world history to win slams on clay, grass and hard-courts all in a calendar year (2010). If Nadal had won Wimbledon this year, he'd be 67-2 (assuming no walkovers) and would finish the season with his highest ever season winning percentage. Nadal has a chance to equal McEnroe's 82-3 record this year, and possibly better it if he plays Basel. Then Nadal could have an 87-3 season. Amazing.

It would be awesome if he goes undefeated the rest of the year :) I hope he wins Paris and the WTF especially though.

Nadal is also the only player to have won the Channel slam, the Clay Slam and the North American slam. He is also the only player to have won the North American Slam in the last 10 years.

There will come a point when Rafa will equal Roger's slam count or even beat it, that's the standard Roger's fans have set for the GOAT, but when we get to that point, they will move the goal post and make the number of weeks at #1 the criteria, because that is the only raft Roger will have left to hang on to as he is being put in the shadows by Rafa, fast.

This is sincere praise if ever there was one, coming from the chief of Rafa detractors, Mats Wilander:

"As long as Rafa's in there, I think the rivalries are very interesting," As long as Rafa's in there, there's a contrast in style. It doesn't matter how you play, because no one plays like him. No one acts like him. No one fights like him; he's lefty, he spins it -- so anybody against Nadal is a good rivalry."

    LOL.

I had been looking forward to, hopefully, a Rafa v. DelPo final as well.

Andy GOATing over in the Davis Cup right now, though.

What is North American Slam? Are they the same as the ones Rafter won in 1998 (the American Summer Slam)?

I still can't get over the high that win has given me. It's like after that match I could finally exhale.

I rarely go into the Pro Match Results either during a Rafa match. It makes me feel a bit snippy reading some of the comments. Going in there is not a habit I'm going to adopt. It was a one-off type of thing.

Is the finger wag something that Federer and Nadal do exclusively when beating Novak?

No, it's just their way of saying "I'm back" or "I'm still here". Federer's was to show that he was still elite, capable of taking out anybody. Nadal's in RG was what sparked his ridiculously good comeback. His Montreal finger wag was pretty much his official return to the top on HC.

All 3 matches just happened to be against Novak.

Congrats to Rafa as he deserves No1 spot for last 12 months but i would not get too carried away as there are signs that Novak is rediscovering his form and i think 2014 is going to see some titantic clashes between these two.
