Both Men's and Women's relay are all legs. No feel, no hand to eye coordination. They would not make it as tennis players.

Just curious, have you ever run a relay? and run your 100m leg under 10sec as well?

I have run 4 x100 relays in high school of course not close to under 10 seconds (I doubt anyone on this board has), but a dropped baton in a prelim round is inexcusable. They have to go for safe passes in the prelims. Their sprinters are fast enough to make it into the finals regardless how poor the baton pass is- as long as you make it in the first place!

Jamaica also dropped the baton in the 4X100m womens final. I think they were the bookmakers odds on choice to win.

I've been watching all olympics since I was a kid and I don't remember one where the main favourites all dropped the batton to end their races. For one of the favourites to drop the baton isn't that unusual but still unexpected because the top nations are usually very well drilled in baton changing.

Let's see what the Bolt and the Jamaican men do now in the 4X100m relay, it's due to start soonish.

Whoa, the jamaican team just beat the previous world record by .3 seconds which is huge for the 4X100m relay. Bolt ran the 3rd leg.

The time was 37.10 seconds so that's an average of 9.25 secs per 100m. Apart from the first leg runners all the rest have running starts for their 100m legs.

Dropping the baton is easy to do. When you are running that fast, and are very excited, failure is a possibility. I feel sorry for the USA squad as they would have medalled.

Jamaica was definitely HOT, and good for them.

Enjoy the races and the EFFORTS of all these kids.

Jamaica killed everyone in the mens 4x100 by about 15 meters. Pity the Jamaican 4x100 womens team also dropped the baton in the final or they would have won too.

Really feel bad for Lauryn Williams to have the same thing happen in two Olympics.

Feel sorry for Tyson Gay, he prolly won't want to remember these Olympics. Then again the drop wasn't really his fault, the other guy dithered too much.

This is what happens when you have a relay team made up of 4 anchor leg guys (ie someone who can get the handoff but has never made the pass).

I think if Gay wasn't injured, he could've had a chance at the medals, or possibly beat Bolt. He got slower because he didn't have enough time to let it heal. I feel sorry for him. There were lots of expectations from him.

Nah, even if he were 100%, Gay would've never been able to touch bolt. He probably would've medaled though.

I think he should also lay off those Big Macs.
