The Uniqlo Fed Curse

Fed since joining Uniqlo in majors:

Wimbledon loss to Anderson
US Open loss to Millman
AO loss to Tsitsipas

Fun fact: Fed's only title in Uniqlo - A hometown win in Basel over Copil

Is it father time or mother karma that has caught up with Fed?

You're being silly. Djoker switched from Uniqlo to Lacoste in May 22, 2017 and his performance was just outright BAD until he won 2018 Wim and USO.

If you really think the manufacturer of his apparel has anything to do with performance than we can’t have a logical conversation.

The apparel isn’t bad, and perhaps his age may have a thing or two to do with it. To say nothing of the fact he was just out played on those occasions.

Kids... gino was actually referring to karma, not to the Uniqlo itself... and I believe that gino could be right.

Sometimes these things just happen though. There are all sorts of anecdotes of companies or artists who made a small, insignificant change and their results suffered.

I don't think it's 'karma' since I don't think he did anything wrong per se. I think Nike screwed themselves too.

It's more like some mojo has been lost. Perhaps subconsciously, Nike saying that they don't see him as a top-tier athlete affected his self-esteem.

Yep, he waited for Nike to tell him how good a player he really is.

In motorsports (motocross), It was always called the “Suzuki curse.” Everyone believed it until Ricky Carmichael showed up and spanked everyone for years on his Suzuki. The James Stewart did it (on Suzuki).

Any change to your routine can mess you up. Especially when that change is accompanied by a messy divorce from the world's premier apparel company, the only clothing sponsor you've had for what, 20 years? All because they don't value you enough to pay you a dime after you retire.

Tropicana changed their packaging once, and changed it back after 1 month because of a 20 per cent drop in sales. You think these "minor details" don't matter but they do.

You said something different in your previous post, so I addressed it.

As for details influencing his preparation, I don't see how the example you gave is in any way relevant, except that they made a mistake regarding their market recognisablility, which influenced their sales.

I doubt that Federer cares about how much his sponsor sells, as long as he receives his cheque, so whether his image and the product that he advertises was more popular has nothing to do with his self-esteem.

Just saying that any change, even one that seems trivial, can have a huge effect.

It is possible, but unless it is something that can be directly related to the way the person achieves his/her success (like changing of his raquet, schedule etc) we are getting into superstitions.

Federer is also a person of habit, and continuity is certainly important to him, but I really doubt that he bought into the idea that the only company fit for a champion was his then sponsor.

He is very aware of his legacy with or without any of his sponsors.

I had a bad feeling when he did it. It never felt right. I guess I can't blame him, his winning majors may have been done anyway, and it's possible he recognized that and wanted to cash in as much as possible. It just seems like a cultural mismatch.

It's been mentioned here before. Lacoste ruined Andy Roddick. He had to compromise with pulling his shirt and sometimes adjusting it midpoint. Don't bet against shirt tech. Federer was a sweaty pick in New York. He chose an endorsement over his slam mojo.
