CC, that seems to be your MO: coming in after matches have occurred and mocking people for making predictions that ended up not coming to fruition. Makes you look REAL smart.

I remember your "Murray in straights" prediction in the latest Raonic match. Was THIS close to pointlessly mocking you after the fact the way you pointlessly mock others after the fact. Restrained myself. But now I see it's about the only thing you contribute. Brilliant.

Exactly and I didnt guarantee a Stosur win. I did say if she played super bad, something she often does in finals, there was a 30% chance she would lose, and as it turned out she played super bad, and the 30% chance (a percentage indicating reasonable possability) occured vs Wozniacki playing one of her best matches ever. I did indicate I thought the match was on Stosur's racquet and I dont think anything that occured disproved that. Good for the Woz though, 2 titles, ends the year in the top 10, not such a bad year for her after all. Hopefully she can make a comeback the top 6 or 7 next year, IMO the highest she can hope to go again, or atleast in the near future.

Get over yourself, I was just having some fun with NA. This is not a nuclear physics forum is it?

Re my prediction of Murray beating Raonic in straights, I was incorrect and I am incorrect many times but many of my predictions are pretty good at times as well. Check my past posts and see for yourself and don't just look at that one Murray in straights prediction.

Are you a butthurt Stosur fan? Sure sounds like it. I think Stosur is talented but she should have won many more WTA titles with her talent and the reason she hasn't is due to the fact that she is one of the biggest chokers of the WTA. Truth hurts right? ;)

The funny thing about Stosur is people talk about her like she should have won more than 1 slam yet she still has won only 3 freaking tournaments. It reminds me of people talking about Jennifer Potriati deserving more than 3 slams when she had won only 14 tournaments, by far the least of any 3 slam winner in history, heck maybe the least of any 2 slam winner ever.

Some of us on the WTA forum were talking and Sam actually has the 3rd lowest # of tournament wins of any slam winner ever. The only ones lower are Chris O Neill and Barbara Jordan, who both have exactly 1 as their only pro titles anywhere each came at the Australian Open, back when the event was a joke and catastrophe. Even Francesca Schiavone who is 4th lowest has more with 5. It would be hilarious if Sam never even catches her, especialy considering everyone talks about Schiavone as the weaker player.

While I am not a Wozniacki fan I have to give her her due as well on something. She is soon going to be the most winningest player without a slam ever in womens tennis. Currently the most touranment wins for a slamless player is Shriver at 21. Wozniacki is now at 20. She also is the only slamless player with two year end #1s. It is looking more and likely like her destiny is to be the best player to never win a slam title, overtaking Dementieva, Shriver, Sukova, and the others were previously were given that title.

    LUXY BABY :) :) :)

Venus back in the top 25 and likely seeded for the AO.

She has also qualified for Sofia, though I doubt she'll play.

She seems to be managing her condition better, and has gone from 130's at beginning of the year to top 25 in 10 events, at the age of 32.

Like her or hate her you cant not respect her desire to get back near the top.

Venus has really done awesome at playing herself back into shape. I seriously questioned if she could given how unpredictable this condition seems to be but she seemed fit in Luxemburg. Granted its not a major and didn't have a stacked field but a title is a title and she played awesome in that final. I actually hope she plays in Sofia because she has worked her tail off...she deserves it.

Not a Stosur fan any more than I'm a Woz fan.

I just don't see the point in smarmily pointing out someone's prediction as incorrect after the fact. It doesn't add anything to the discourse other than minimizing someone else. It is basically Nelson from The Simpsons going "haHA." Pointless.

So much for the haters saying the Williams dont care about the tour. Venus plays a tier 4 tournament and wins it, what a fighter, battling all the odds and still wants to be part of the tour.

Well just ignore my posts then. You need to have a better sense of humor and not take things so seriously on a tennis forum.

Not a good club to join. If Wozniacki was aware of this history, would she even think about making an 11th hour change--a serious change in her coaching...just to have a chance at a major?

Just seen Maria's post match interview - she threw MAJOR shade to Wozniacki and Jankovic. When asked on her desire to finish number one:

    - ''I dont really think about it too much, can't even remember who finished number one the last 5 years. I know I was number one at some point this year but I couldn't tell you who's finished number the last few years. I remember who wins the slams, not who finishes number one''

Give or take a few words.

Well, Hell! Sharapova delivers the professional tennis quote of the year--and a great contrast/bookend to the infamous Safina comment:

Sharapova has this one point right on target--the reason she's still trying to compete.

Wonder if Serena would still play if she had no chance to win a major. Knowing her best may not be good enough. Does she love playing?

Serena doesn't care about the tour, but it seems the feeling is mutual. With all the promotional stuff they do, it seems like the WTA goes out of their way not to highlight Serena, who's by far the best player on the tour.

Why on earth would she still play if she thought she could not win a major? Why would any great play if he or she thought he or she could no longer compete at the highest level?

I don't think it is Sharapova being bitc*y here. Have you heard her in interviews where interviewers have asked Sharapova what her stats were in the past or which seven players she played to get a grand slam title? She literally does not remember her own stats so why would she remember somebody else's?

Also, she is absolutely correct here. People remember who wins a slam, not who finishes number one.

Bar Federer I think, I haven't really heard of a single tennis player who remembers these kinds of things. I remember a same interview with Serena in Wimbledon where she was asked basic questions on some random stats, matches in her career probably any real fan would answer easily and she was incapable of giving even a single good answer.

All these stats, H2h nonsense are for the trolls, no-lives etc. to argue with ; pro players don't care about these kinds of things.

    BONUS STAT: YEAR-END TOP 10
With one exception, the year-end Top 10 is now set:
    1. Victoria Azarenka
    2. Maria Sharapova
    3. Serena Williams
    4. Agnieszka Radwanska
    5. Angelique Kerber
    6. Sara Errani
    7. Li Na
    8. Petra Kvitova
    9. Samantha Stosur
    10. [Marion Bartoli or Caroline Wozniacki] (depends on Wozniacki in Sofia)

    From the WTA.

I would have to disagree with you there. I have heard interviews with Federer, Murray, Nadal and Roddick where they were asked specific stats about past matches and all of them did very well. When I heard the Sharapova interview, I was surprised. She could literally not answer a thing, things that she should have been able to answer. She sounded like an airhead and I like her but ????

Here is Andy Murray being asked some questions about some Wimbledon career stats:

Here is Sharapova being asked some questions about her Wimbledon career:

    See the difference?

Venus seems to be getting better...it will be interesting to see if she can do any damage at a major.

I think she has one more Wimbledon in her.

Vesnina is so useless in finals. Choked in the final against Puig? Girl hasn't won any singles event since 2003. Perpetual title less maiden.

It will be interesting to see which top seed she draws in the 3rd round at the aussie. She should be seeded in the 24-26 range, so she could draw someone like errani who wozniacki or she has a real shot against.

My favorite pre match interview was Fed at the '08 USO Open before playing Muller: "It's always tough to play someone for the first time."
but Fed had already played Muller twice before!

Sampras has a horrible memory. Can't remember what year he won what major or played what player in the final. "when I won the AO in '95.."
"when I played Andre at 2000 Wimbledon.."
even his own book is riddled with mistakes: "I didn't play the French in '02"

Lendl in recent years seems to have forgotten so much about his career, I hope someone fact checks his book.

Chris Evert is pretty bad as well, reporters would always correct her in her press conferences.

and Mac keeps perpetuating the myth that he was up 2 sets to love & a break in the 3rd vs Lendl in the '84 FO final(he admits he has never watched that match)
And todays commentators/press keep repeating that lie.

Semis at Tournament of Champions in Sofia, Bulgaria are set

    Wozniacki(3-0 in RR) vs Pironkova(1-2)
    Petrova(3-0) vs Vinci(2-1)

Tennis Channel is showing semis tomorrow. And the Fed Cup Final(Safarova-Ivanovic & Kvitova-Jankovic play Day 1)

My money would be on Woz over Pironkova. Petrova has the match on her racquet vs Vinci. So I see a Wozniacki-Petrova final with Woz winning it. Prove me wrong, Nadia... PLEASE!

Kvitova should smoke Jankovic. But if JJ can pull off the upset Serbia basically takes the title. I have little faith in Safarova holding her matches.

I still remember her vs Serena years ago at Wimbledon. Serena basically immobile and incapacitated by cramp and somehow Hantuchova loses her serve.

She's just out there. Her game was never the kind designed to be of significance in the sport--despite the early years hype around her (more for modeling shots than her game, if her media boosters were honest).

Petrova is laying a beatdown on Woz. 6-2 3-0 so far. Up two breaks.

5-1 and Woz slams her racquet.

Petrova wins the title 6-2 6-1. Nice way to end the year.

As for Wozniacki, she finishes 2012 in the top 10. But when she faces a big hitter in the zone this seems to happen.

    What a nice gif :).

Suprised she is back to top 10. Bartoli had the better year and she is the alternate for WTA Championships. Not fair for Wozzy to get that back in a meaningless event.

Petrova beats Karolina, and ends up with a pretty nice end to the year.

Olympic Bronze, Tokyo (premier 5) win, YEC Doubles win and Sofia TOC win.

She is up to 12 and is playing really consistent, and looks fitter than she has for a while.

She must be feeling very confident going into 2013.
