Interesting....but as noted earlier, there's the idea that her personal life could be drawing her focus away from her game--and that would be a shame, as she is one of the most hungry players to come along in some time.

Lisicki lost to Wozniak. More time for her to shop I guess.

Halep is playing horribly. She is desperate to get into this list.

Can we confirm AngieB is not on suicide watch? That was a mutual chokefest by Kerber and MTTF last night.

Oddly, I enjoyed it (what I saw anyway). Obviously there were errors, but I was surprised so many. They both seemed to be having physical probs the last set.

Forget about Lawrence Of Arabia or The Godfather Part 2 - way better drama in 3.5 hours of the WTA

Injury alert: Jankovic (up 1-0 first set) looks like she's going to try to play through a bad back vs. Rybarikova. Trainer's been out working on Jankovic for about 5 minutes now.

This one was a bit of karmic irony. At the YEC, Serena beat JJ even though her back was bothering her. Jelena was making comments about how Serena certainly didn't move like she was injured, implying that Serena was lying and using gamesmanship (as if she needs to do that to beat her).

I might as well add Kvitova to RIP. Playing like this reminds me of Vaidisova just before she married the Worm. Brainless and with no passion for the game.

Cibulkova may be the 1st WTA player that can bring back the Puma Catsuit. Back-to-back Giorgi then the Dominatrix!

We may need a poll on who gets married first: Cibulkova, Kirilenko, Azarenka, Kvitova, or Wozniacki. Cibulkova is the only one of that group that's actually playing better.

So...in her qf post match interview, Li said Carlos was having her do a new service motion and that she stuck with it in spite of all her DFs. She won that day. Yesterday she was DFing like crazy and she lost. At some point should she have gone back to her old motion to win the match, or was she right to keep moving forward and sacrifice this tournament for the sake of future ones? Or was everything else enough of a mess that it wouldn't have mattered? Or would it be too hard to change back in the middle of a match anyway?

I think this question is just me making an excuse for her....

That's really interesting. I noticed Li Na was doing something different with her service motion but didn't realize it was intentional. My only guess a to why she didn't just switch back is perhaps she is trusting her coach that hopefully the change will reap dividends in the long run despite the short term hiccup.

The commentators mentioned a stat that despite Li Na's success so far this year, she has only one win against a player that's near the top 10 (Cibulkova @ #11) and before that hasn't beaten anyone higher than Flavia who is ranked #21. Interesting too.

Here's her match record for 2014 (assuming it's accurate):

Sharapova needs a decent run or she is in danger of dropping out of top 10.

    Woz dropped to 18 ouch.

At her age, I'm surprising she's trying to revolutionise. Maybe she feels she's on the brink of breakthrough and she'll be fully improved by FO/Wimby.

Vika has pulled out of Monterry too.

I think she will play at Rome next.

The #1 ranking is a curse in the WTA unless your name is Serena Williams.

Sigh. I really shouldn't have to spell this out for you... Wozniacki, Safina, Jankovic... I wasn't talking about many years ago, but of course you already know that.

As if 2014 version of Stosur was going to give Serena fits... LOL Coco will need to bring her A+ game to stand any chance. Expect a whole lot of quick points via UEs for this one.

Yeah, any result in this match would put Serena straight into the quarterfinals. I knew it as soon as I saw the draw. That was my point.

I'm not 100% convinced. Serena's making lots of UE's this year compared to last year. She's not playing her best. Coco (and Sam) can goat once or twice a year. Of course, I'm a ridiculously nervous fan, so my perspective is cloudy.

What can I say? I'm a nervous Nellie when it comes to Serena. Maybe that's why I'm her fan. I can't imagine what a hardcore Kvitova or Stosur fan goes through!

I have the impression that her shots are better than her footwork. Hitting the ball in the court would also help.

I have not seen a ugly, stinkko match like this in a good five years. I don't know if Sloane was just to tired and/or she has deep personal problems; but I good 4.0 or higher player could win against her today with no trouble!

I think Paul Annacone job might be in jeopardy because Sloane camp has to blame someone for this; so it has to be the coach not the player!
