These last 12 tennis months have been crazy

One year ago, 17 slams Novak was contemplating AO retirement in his third rd from an abdominal tear.

Rafa was a virtual lock to get to 21 at RG and lead the slam race.

Instead, Novak goes full Ultron mode and destroys the AO field, then does the impossible and ousts Nadal at RG before breaking Tsitsipas' heart in the final from 0-2 down, becoming the first Open era player to get double career grand slams.

He predictably wins his 6 th Wimbledon to get to 20 slams.

Everybody anticipates him to win USO and the CYGS, cementing his GOAT status, the first player in the open era.
But everything goes sour when little fancied Medvedev incredibly straight sets him.

People then assume it's only a minor inconvenience and that Novak will decisively win his tenth AO title and get the slam lead at last.

Politics rear it's ugly head, and resurrected Rafa overtakes injury, age and his demons to stage an unbelievable comeback against the man who deprived Novak of his CYGS, getting for the first time in his life the slam lead and equaling Novak's double career grand slams.

Novak now is faced with the prospect of having to win 3 more slams should Rafa win RG 2022, otherwise he won't get that all important record.

You could make a Hollywood movie out of these last 12 months.
