Listening to that guy during the match made me agitated, yet Jon Werthless in his SI.com column this week calls it a success. I couldn't stand how Vitale was constantly talking so loudly through the match. I finally had to turn the sound off to relax and watch the Haas match. Was anyone else irritated by this? Vitale is for basketball where action is everchanging, not tennis.

I thought Dicky V did a good job and he actually knows a good bit about tennis and other sports besides basketball, but if you were irritated just by 10mins of him Im guessing you dont watch any college basketball

I actually liked it, much better than PMAC, but I suppose if it had been a Roddick match, Dicky V would have converted to super-aggravating-Roddick-worship-mode.

it was my understanding that he was actually so loud that kiefer complained and the umpire forced him out of the broadcast booth

that's why he left so suddenly in the middle of a game instead of at the commercial break

Wow, that's hilarious that he was too loud. I though it was funny though.

Tennis needs more passionate people like Dickie V involved in the promotion of the game. He is quite knowledgable about the game. I believe that he had a daughter that went to Bollettieri's. He would be perfect for World Team Tennis.

The umpire should have told Keifer that no one bought their tickets, in advance, hoping to see him in the final.

I was there for the match, in my opinion his guest was too loud during the point. If I heard loud laughter during the point during the final, I would be pissed too.

Well I watch college basketball a lot. I find Dicky V incredibly annoying.

His uses the same catch phrases over and over. He has an increible east coast bias but that is another story...

If you never heard of him, he may be interesting for the first few times tho

Dickie V. had two daughters who played tournament tennis. Both daughters ended up at Notre Dame on tennis scholarships. Supposedly, he is a huge tennis fan.

I also met him on the bus and in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt a few times over the years!

Very different guy in person than on BBall broadcasts. Very ordinary, more low key but still a passionate sports fan. Real good guy.

    Tennis could use him!

USTA ought to recruit him for those TennisWelcomeCenter.com ads, along with people famous for other stuff (Daisy Fuentes, Jeff Gordon). The game could use more players at the grass roots level, and so many of those folks know Dicky V, and hear him often.

He could announce if they put him in a glass proof sound box so that the players wouldn't hear him. And make it so that you can disable his commentary at home if you want...

Vitale knows the game of tennis. He is, in fact,
a good tennis player and has played the game
for years; certainly Vitale has the knowledge to comment
    on the game.

He has such a strong personality that it
tends to push people to either end of the
spectrum. His style might be best for
a format like World Team Tennis. In general,
I sense that most hard-core tennis fans
would prefer less commentary rather than
more. Dick is a MORE guy.

At least he did not bring up Duke basketball
    during his tennis stint.

Dick was pretty good. His daughters went to Bolle., so he should know a little bit about the game. He should've toned it down for tennis, it's not basketball. He is good at college basketball games, I like the excitement. He did a fine job in his comments, about Haas opening up the court to close it out at the net. True, you kind have to be quiet during the point.
