just watching him outsmart Murray is good enough ;)

seriously though, in a year or two he's gonna be big.
    such a smart play.
not all weapons yet, especially BH.
    but cool head!

    it's no hype i think.

    Dead even!

I was hoping he would make a run at AO but the Kandyman ended it in R2.

i really don't care if he loses now.
    Murray still has the experience.
(although i'll be delighted with joy if he puts Muzz out).
he's on his way up for sure.

He showed against Tsonga last year in vienna what he is really capable of. It was even a closer match than this one. Training with Gulbis definitely doing him well!

He has a great future but this thread was most likely created to besmirch the Barron which is treasonous ;) I'm joking!

I hope Thiem plays Wawrinka, Haas or Federer and produce this display as the one hander ain't dead, dying or on life support...it's coming back and it's good for tennis.

I can guarantee you guys that nothing will come of this kid.

Nothing will come out of any players that have not already won a Slam - they are all hype jobs.

Great young player, want to see more of him. Hope the tourneys will give him lots of WCs.

Peter Flemming and the other Sky commentators were very enthusiastic too about him.

    he got:
    brainz.
    balzz.
    touch.
    movement.
and a fairly good arsenal (except the BH).

IF he keeps up with this game, he'll get far.

but i haven't yet decided which "baby" he is...

I first heard of him in the summer, reaching the quarters in Kitzbuhel (wins vs Russian Kuznetsov, Melzer) before losing to Montanes. He can play all surfaces or so it seems.

Top 50 this year would get his ticket punched for an easier path in '15.

At this rate, we won't have to keep asking where all the young players are. Vesely, Thiem, Kyrgios, and Coric have all made noteworthy statements through their play in recent months.

Thiem seems to have all the weapons, well most of them, and a good mental attitude. The quality of his game should carry him much further up the rankings than where he is at the moment. In fact, he played like a top 10 player today!

The only question mark over him is the same one for all the young guns these days. Can they do this consistently week in, week out? Consistency is the one thing that seperates the elite players from the journeymen. It's one thing to be able to play one or two or three great matches in a row but can they do it for two or three or four tournaments in a row which is what the top guys do on a regular basis.

Looking at the stat sheet vs Murray...dead even on points; Murray was more efficient on serve, needing 7 (IIRC) less points to hold equally; key difference...7 DF's by Thiem indoors...that will bite you in the arse vs top 10ers.

    How about that!

He just played very well Indoor but this does not necessarily mean he will play that sort of level Outdoor with different conditions on slower surfaces.
By the way, he lost in straight sets to Anderson at the AO...
Certainly he played out of his skin because he faced a top player.

He was going for his shots. Look at the number of UEs.

The kid has some talent but ways to go. Especially, his BH which looks weaker than and the likes of Nadal will chew him up.

Andy Murray had a very tough match against Dominic Thiem! The score does not show it in the third set but it was closer then the score show especially in the first two games of the third.

Dominic can of resembles Stan Wawrinka!

yes, Murray had to dig deep and keep his game although it seemed he was tired, hurt, and frustrated. good efforts from him. wasn't easy.

about Thiem - his young mind gave him away on this. AND the BH.
started getting pushed against the wall in the 3rd set, and sprayed errors.

a bit of maturing and establishing a firmer BH a-la-Wawa, will be cool.
really liked his net touch and cracking FHs.

but what really amazed me was his head. it's in the right place for top 10.
and that's what makes the real difference here.
he was extremely cool most of the match, and made Murray sweat his brain to come up with answers.

but did you watch the Murray match?
he has tremendous raw talent, ripe to be picked.
i hope he use it wisely.

He had a cockiness that reminded me of a young Boris Becker, the way he carried himself.

i know, i watched him a bit last year when he played some great matches on clay
the problem with this kind of players is inconsistance and mental strenghts
the latter one is the most important to become a top 10

Players like him come and go. They are good for a match and then fade away in the next, streaky.

    maybe.
    but-
look at the other young "guns" - Dimitrov, JJ, etc. their mental game is still lacking to reach more heights.
i think in Thiem's case he already has the right attitude in his mind to face the further hurdles that awaits him.
of course it could be a one time match, but i feel something different.

of example with JJ, when he almost won Paris i also thought "here comes a good one", but actually when you dig deeper into him, he just has the serve, attack FH, and the drop shot. AND he has mental barriers.

Thiem has more brains and more weapons. and it seems he can keep his cool more than the other lads.
    hope i'm right!

    good opportunities for Thiem:

    now he'll face Benneteau,
    which is winnable.
    after that it's:
    either - Lopez or Kukushkin
    also good chances,
    and then -
he's probably face Djokovic and if not - Cilic.

he can make a good mark this tourney :D

This guy, like everyone else who is not Nadal and Djokovic, is a hype job.

His career high ranking will be no. 50, and he will never get past the 3rd round of a Slam.

    Bank on it.
