Think K-Swiss is getting bad publicity from Monfils?

I know Monfils slides like crazy, but watching a chunk of the outersole pull off the shoe a day or so ago and having him pull it off to keep playing, and now his knee and ankle are hurting from the shoe grabbing on the court, it's tough to say. I would think that K-Swiss should know how hard he is on his shoes, and make special versions to handle the conditions and his playing style.

Well there are several issues I have with Monfils. I think its a shame that he risks his career by sliding around the court - it's stupid. I dont actually think the tennis clothing looks good on him, but looks perfect on Mardy Fish and Sam Querry!

    Just my opinion thanks,
    Harry.

Bad publicity because his shoe was "grabbing on the court"?? Isn't the shoe supposed to grab on a cement court? I think it's called traction.

I think his point is that Monfils' aggressive footwork exposes how easily a bit of abuse could take apart some K-swiss shoes.

The real losers are his knees and ankles.

I think the OP means: a) because he keeps picking at the shoes; b) stopped playing in the middle of a game today to change them - acted like his foot was hurting but didn't call for the trainer.

OP, I would assume there are some frowns in K-Swiss HQ. We fans know Monfils abuses shoes like no other - but the casual person who tuned in might not...

@Tyrus, I agree. Dude needs to learn to pick his spots a little better.

When a player's foot his hurting, I tend not to wonder about his shoes, but rather to think that tennis is very hard on the body.

You know tennis. The casual fan didn't see any other players grabbing their feet. And not sure if you saw his previous match - he tore a chunk of rubber off - then changed.

People should think 'oh, he's a pro; I don't slide like that; no problem'. But many will say 'pieces of rubber hanging off; his feet hurt?; WTF?'

I've been hard on monbum but he looks like his personality will sell a ton of kswiss gear. He's probably the best move kswiss ever made.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the model Monfils is wearing carries a 6 month warranty??

If any bad publicity, won't be much. His speed on the court and agility will do more good, than the particular abuse he rends on his shoes. Plus, yea, they have a 6-mo. gty, so if anything, people who noticed his shoes falling apart will think, "nice, get those and I'll be sure to tear through them in time for a free replacement."

The fact that he is doing well at USO is going to do much more good than bad.

Plus, his KS commercial I thought was nice. Seems his personality will in fact garner more sales than the rest of the less-entertaining KS sponsored players.

The shorts are OK - the shirt is grotesque. K-Swiss' stuff is pretty bad in general, if you ask me. That Fish/Querrey shirt looks like a Tacchini design from 1982.

I agree, it was awful publicity and you can bet the bigwigs at the company heard about it at some point. Imagine a pro takes a swipe at the ball and his racquet snaps in half or something. Would be terrible publicity. Monfils is known for his crazy footwork, sliding, etc., and the company should have given him shoes that can stand up to that.

Unless of course he was wearing an old worn-out pair, and in that case you can bet corporate is going to have a word with him.

K-Swiss should remake the Air Zoom Revive for Monfils. Rip up the sole, rip it off, snap another on.

No one cares- except those who tend to the details- or saw his match on TV.

When was the last time you saw someone wear K Swiss shoes anyway?

He would not be the player he is if he did not slide and run down eveything. He is about making players hit another ball and a figure of athleticism that is good for a company's image. His knees are not from his shoes, could be from anything.

Exactly! I think the last time I saw Kswiss sneakers on the tennis courts- it was the early 90's

tried kswiss when i was much younger and they weren't that bad. would be interested in trying the Big Shot model (Monfils) if they were a better price.

btw - Monfils isn't the only slider on hard courts tho undoubtedly the most extreme.

Before you make up your mind in haste please watch this video, espcially the part at 1:35 and you will see that Gael is a good representative of the K Swiss brand.
