Thinnest Replacement Grips

Hi,

I know this topic has been covered quite allot but I can't seem to find a very definitive answer that wasn't from many years ago.

So the story is, the K Blades that I bought were at a good price but I could only get them in a grip size 4 (4 1/2) and my grip size is around a 3 or 2.5. So I am trying to find the thinnest replacement grip to replace my current stock Wilson leather grip which I hear is 1.8mm?

This is what I have found so far.

The TW leather grip is the thinnest leather grip at 1.3mm?
Laserfibre grip is the smallest synthetic grip but I couldn't find the thickness of it anywhere

Unfortunately, the TW leather grip and Laserfibre grip aren't sold in the UK and it wold cost a dime to get them shipped over.

So my question is, what really, really thin replacement grips are there, that are readily available in the UK. Also if you know the thickness of the Laserfibre grip reducer, that would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Tom

You don't happen to know how thick these are? Looking for the thinnest humanly possible for a replacement grip.

My solution is to put one layer of tournagrip...pulled tight, edge to edge (no ridges),,,then xtremesoft over that with 1/8th overlap & enjoy...the tournagrip gives it a little cushion & absorption & the Xtremesoft is to me the best feeling overgrip...very thin... never found any leather thinner than wilson's

I use the what a grip as a replacement grip and a regular overgrip over it. It feels superb.

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to try using two overgrips and try and also get hold of those Laserfibre Grip Reducers.

I just got the Prince Resi Thin replacement grip on one of my racquets and they felt nice. Will update once I get a chance to hit with it.

Cool sounds good. I think I am going to try the Prince Resi Thin and the Babolat skin feel. I will post my results.

Two overgrips seems like it would be a very hard feel -- hand to racquet. Are the Babolat and Prince thin grips somewhat padded even though thinner than the majority of grips. Want to try the Babolat based on all the TW reviews but am fearful that it will be too hard a feel???

I haven't had a chance to play with the Prince one yet but I can say I do not like the Babolat skin feel. It feels slippery and does not grip well. The Resi Thin felt secure when I put it on but time will tell when I get a chance to hit with it.

I have a Resi thin, Pro hybrid Pro, and a Skin Feel sitting in front of me.
The Skin Feel has a hard top layer but has a very compressable foam base. The Skin Feel is also very rubbery. The Resi Thin is just kinda soft all around, much like a traditional synthetic replacement grip. Pro Hybrid is firm like its meant to be. Its very hard to tell which is thinner without comparing stretch factor. I usually stretch the crap out of my grips. At this point I am thinking the Resi Thin is thinnest. The Skin Feel has a firm rubber grip that I dont think will stretch much. I have used the Pro hybrid before and it strectches well. thinner than a traditional grip. I think the Skin Feel might be better for people who like more cushon although the top layer is very firm. I'll post back later after I give the Resi Thin a try.

Skin feel is thinner than Resi Thin, although gripping surface wise the Resi Thin may be nicer. The Skin Feel is harder and more slick. I laid out the small sample pieces on a table and compressed both pieces the Skin Feel is at least a 1 thinner.

Babolat makes a grip called skin feel replacement grip. It's half the thickness of a regular grip.

I use this and it is suppose to drop your handle size by one. I dont' know if it does but it is alot smaller. I use this because i was trying to get my size back down to 4 3/8 like my older racquets

Want to check my logic here...

One grip size is 1/8" = .125" = 3.17mm

I think original overgrips are somewhere around 1.75mm or 2mm, two sides of it against your hand = 3.5mm to 4.0mm. So if you take the original overgrip off and wrap a very thin overgrip, say 0.5mm, right onto the foam/plastic handle, that will add 1.0mm but reduce the overall grip by 2.5mm to 3.00mm. So if your original overgrip was 2mm, you can reduce it by 1 grip size. If it was 1.75mm you'll get close but not quite 1 grip size. This assumes you use only one piece of something really thin though.

i have used the babolat VS original overgrips as the only grip on my racquet.

extremely thin but not much cushion but comfortable enough for me.

The reason that you can drop a grip size (maybe even two) is that the grip size is the circumference of the grip. You need to double the thickness of the replacement grip and multiply by 3.14 (to figure the circumference of a circle). S o if your original grip is 1.75mm and you replace it with something that is 1.3mm you can reduce by one whole grip size. The next time you replace your grip wrap a string around the handle and measure the string. I think you will be amazed at the difference with no grip. If anyone has any hints on reducing the height of the net let me know.

Thanks for all the responses everyone :)

I suppose I have gotten used to having the larger grip size and don't really want to take the leather grip off as I would lose some of the weight I have grown to love!

I will keep two of my frames how they are for now and one I am going to experiment with the different combos on here and will post my findings, that is when I get the money to pay for them all!

Hi MagPro,

I used Babolat Skin Feel before and put overgrip on it, feel nice, can still feel the bevel shape, but the weight is heavy (14g for a trimmed Skin Feel, and 4g for overgrip)

I would like to try Prince Resi Thin for, does it also give sharp bevel feel as Skin Feel, and weigh less than Skin Feel?

Thanks!

I haven't tried the Resi-thin grip yet. I will weigh the R.T. and let you know.

Tourna has two replacement grips that are thin and not too mushy. One is the Pro Tour, which is 1.50 mm thick. The other is Pro Thin, at 1.25mm (thinner and less cushion than the Pro Tour, so even firmer). Texture is similar to Resi Thin. Pro Tour is nice, too, is one is looking for a light grip. Untrimmed it's about 12 grams. The Pro Tour is about 16 grams, untrimmed.

Skin Feel all the way.

Thin so you will feel like you have dropped a size.
Firm feeling so you get a similar bevel feel as you do with leather.
Good traction on the surface, so no need for an overgrip.
And durable too.
