Looking forward to watching Fed vs Monfils.

Looking forward to know the result of Novak vs Murray.

    Stan is a lock.

Berdych is looking good for a revenge for Wimbledon.

The only QF I'm not sure about is the Nole/Murray match. I think Fed will beat Monfils in 4, Stan will beat Nishikori in 4 and Berdych will beat Cilic in 4!

I think there is a actually a good possibility Berdych can win his first slam here..

Especially if Nole doesn't make the final. Im liking Berdych to take Fed out in the semis. Cilic will be gassed in the next round to play Thomas.

Berdych is playing some crazy tennis and is flying under the radar at the moment.. But the only guy left in the draw who I think can beat him is Nole (with Nadal not there)

I'd be a happy tennis fan if Berdych wins his first GS this year's USO.......he'll deserve it

lol @ the thought of Berdych not choking in a slam final. I don't think there is anyone on the other end of the draw he could beat at that stage of a slam. Especially with 3/4 of them being slam winners.

This is only the 2nd time in 12 appearances that Berdych has made it to the quarter-finals of the US Open (the only other time was in 2012 when he made it to the semis losing to eventual champion, Murray).

To date, he has only made 1 Slam final and that was at 2010 Wimbledon when he took out defending champion Federer in the quarters and Djokovic in the semis only to get steam-rollered by Nadal in the final.

You feel Berdych has the power and the game to go all the way but cannot seem to make the final push. In his 11 years on tour he has only ever made the finals of 4 big tournaments (1 Slam and 3 Masters 1000s) and won 1 of them (2005 Paris-Bercy), which is now almost an entire decade ago. He has always been a near-and-yet-so-far type of player. He will turn 29 in a couple of weeks and maybe the example of Stan Wawrinka, who won his first Slam at almost exactly the same age at the beginning of the year, will finally inspire him to fulfil his potential. We can only wait and see!

People have just forgotten how big of a choker he is. There is zero chance of him not crapping his pants at the thought of lifting the trophy. I would even favour Nishikori over him in a final.

You and me both. Among the non-Slam winners, Berdych and Tsonga are the most deserving to win one in their lifetime. imho.

If Murray can stop Novak, I can see the 18th.

If Novak wins tomorrow, it is just more ranking points for Fed.

Fed in his ESPN interview when pressed for what his tangible goals are said " probably a wimbledon title, may be the number 1 if I keep playing well, possibly the davis cup this year. WTF is always important for me'..

Looks like USO title is not in his agenda.

I'm not that worried about Berdych/Cilic,just not a fan of either player. I'll look forward to the other ones though,Djokovic,Wawrinka and Federer likely to be the winners, and Berdych...

Well that was a dumb comment beast made. Berdych and Tsonga are clowns of the highest order. They are not slam contenders.

Berdych's draw has been a real joke, except for R2 :

Out of form Hewitt, Gallant Gabashvilli, Gassed out youngster Thiem.

Not sure whether this is the 2010 Berdych or he is just looking good because of his opponents.

I know that they have to win it. But considering their consistency; and that they have beaten The Big 4 more times than the rest of the Top100, to me they are the sentimental favorites.

WHY, Don't you have one player outside of Fed that you like to win a GS in the near future ?

You mean Rafa ? Well, he's my number 1 favorite. What do you expect ? I'm just being honest. Why, if Fed is not playing who are you gonna root for among the 7 remaining players ?

why people always say federer will lose to berdych? berdych not that good right now he's playing scrubs

fed over monfils and then teach berdych in a lesson of humility.
    murray over nole
    nishikori over wawa

    final fed vs murray

Ferrer crushes Berdych in every category except h2h with Federer.

    ATP titles: 22 vs 9
Highest YE ranking: 3 vs 6
    Highest season winning %: 84% vs 73%
Consecutive slam QFs: 10 vs 2 (Berdych has NEVER been consistent. Always losing early in slams. Often in the 1st round)
Consecutive slam SFs: 3 vs 2
    WTF finals: 1 vs 0
    Masters titles: 1 vs 1
    Masters finals: 6 vs 2
    Slam finals: 1 vs 1
    Slam SFs: 5 vs 3

He also has a better record than Berdych against both Nadal and Djokovic.

I think you missed my point WhiskeyEE. I was never an avid Ferrer fan........well, neither am I an avid Berdych fan.But I like Berdych and Tsonga better. Maybe you think I will go for Ferrer just because I'm a Rafa fan. Dead wrong buddy.
I guess just personal preferences really.

I actually like Gasquet and Verdasco better than Ferrer for some reason

seriously? wawrinka and nishikori both would have an advantage over berdych too, the only guy that could lose from that half would be murray. and djokovic wouldn't lose to berdych, that's for sure.

Yes, looking foward to these matches indeed! It could get very interesting with the Fed vs Monfils match, but Fed to take it in 3. Looking foward to Djokovic vs Murray result, and how well Murray plays in general. Expect really good rallies and winners in the Wawrinka vs Nishikori match, and I think Berdych will take out Cilic in 4, maybe even 3.

This is where the fun begins. We have a super main event tonight, and a couple of very interesting showdowns in the other sections. This round will answer A LOT of questions for us. The whole Murray V Djokovic collision course is what has been been dominating this event so far...time to see how it ends, and what ramifications it has on the rest of the draw.

9pm too, I couldn't ask for a better starting time :) Hoping for a good match, and The Muzz to win and hopefully win the title also. He's been through hell this year and this could get him back on track in a big way.

I am with you on this. I second you wholeheartedly :)

I have never called any ATP player clown. These people, be it Tsonga, Berdych or whoever that may be are doing something these posters can't do and still diss their achievements. I am a software engineer, I can't claim I am in the top 100 s/w guys. So what right do I have to call top ATP players just because they can't beat giants like Rafa or Roger Federer.

Other wise also, it's way too cheap to resort to name calling players just because they are relatively weak compared to the all time greats like Roger, Rafa, Novak etc

I have a feeling the QFs won't deliver the drama.

Djoko-Murray: one of them will play a poor level
    Stan-Nishi: beatdown from Stan
    Berdych-Cilic: turns into pushfest
    Federer-Monfils: Fed GOATs.

    My take

    Monfils finally beats Fed.
Cilic too tired from 5 setter.
    Djokovic over Murray.
Stan the Man, again Nishikori too tired from the 5 setter, we all know how prone to injury he is.

Of course they'll be devoid of drama. No Nadal means no drama. The only source of drama that can come out of Nadal's withdrawals from the US Open series is the speculation of when he will return, which many are eagerly awaiting and excited for.

almost empty stadium for Berdych vs Cilic.

Waw vs Nishi was pretty decent occupancy. Djoker vs Murray was a sellout blockbuster and so would be the Fed vs Monfils

No wonder even Americans want to just see Big guns in Arthur Ashe!!
