could someone elaborate on the different tie off points? such as 8 top and 8 bottom etc...
The number identifies the grommet hole from the center of the racket on the top (T) and bottom (B) of the racket and the letter tells you it is either the top or bottom. There used to be some designations for head (H) and throat (T) but I have not seen that in a long time. If you go to Head's instructions they designate the grommet holes counting from the bottom of the racket's center. Let's say you have an 18x20 racket. That means there will be 38 holes on each side of the racket. One grommet hole for each main (top and bottom) and one grommet hole for each cross (left (L) and right (R.)) For for the 18x20 racket the grommet holes are numbered 1L-38L and 1R-38R.
Below is the stringing pattern for a Head YT Prestige Mid:
18 Mains / 20 Crosses
Mains skip: 8T,10T,8H,10H
No shared holes
As Irvin said the numbers represent the grommets counted out from the centre mains. T being at the Throat and H being at the head. Sorry Irv, H and T are very much still in vogue!!!
thanks for the detail info, is there a downside if you don't tie off where manufacture recommended.
so where would each (8T,10T,8H,10H) be located on the racquet just to certain? would 8T and 8H be parallel to each other?
Strange when I go to Head's instructions I get this:
YouTek Prestige MID
Total String Length:
11 m / 36,5 ft
18 Main (6 m/20 ft)
20 Cross (5 m / 16,5 ft)
Rec. String Tension:
26 +/- 2kp / 57 +/- 5lbs
Start at the top with the center holes L38 and R38. For the
left side of the main strings clamp 3m (10ft) at hole R38.
Tighten 2 main strings right, two main strings left and so on,
skipping holes L+R31, L+R29 as well as L+R8 and L+R10.
Tie off at holes L+R7.
Tie on the cross strings at hole R 33 and lace string through
hole R31. Tighten all 20 cross strings in direction of racquet
throat. Tie off at hole R7.
For optimum performance use HEAD Sonic Pro.
If you go to Head's website below there is a link to their stringing instructions. Look on page two and there is a picture of where the tie off are located.
The downside to not using the tie off holes recommended by the manufacturer is that you may a some real problems getting two strings in the grommet hole.
Thanks Irvin, after I started the rest fell in place
