Is there anything else there to do besides cheap dental work, booze and ladies?
I have 2.5 days there to kill later this week. :)

You could pay to have your picture taken with a zebra (they are actually donkeys painted as zebras)! They were all over the place last I went there...some even had the stripes worn almost off and it was very obvious they were donkeys. Other than that, you should be able to find some awesome food, but you will probably have more luck if you go a bit past the main strip. Try to avoid drinking the water.

Drive a few hours down the Baja – there are some wonderful empty resorts with beautiful beaches, good food, interesting people, and ping pong tables.

Or alternatively, go the Dykstra route and spend 2.5 days having pictures taken with fake zebras in Tijuana.

Didn’t notice any down at the Baja beaches, but if he is going to spend 2.5 days having his pictures taken with donkeys painted as zebras, perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to take extra precautions against some of the major drug cartels.

I honestly wouldn't want to go into Mexico at all if I were you. It is extremely dangerous with all the drug wars going on.

These days you might score an actual Zonkey. :)

Having lived full-time in San Diego for 6 years (still own a place there), there are MUCH better places to visit in Mexico. It can be dangerous, so just don't walk down side streets or do anything stupid. It's dirty and grimy and ugly and trashy but can be fun and there are plenty of wonderful people (used to do medical outreach there pretty frequently). I was just in San Diego last weekend for a wedding and a doc I used to work with had some friends that just got back from TJ. It took minutes to get across the border and ~ 7 hours to get back (walking across). About 3 hours into their wait, they were able to pay for a ride on a bus and waited another 4 hours. They mostly just sat in traffic on the bus but at least they had AC and a bathroom. :) As mentioned above, Rosarito, as well as Ensenada are nice spots not too far from TJ. The wife and I used to drive down just to have lunch or dinner. Southern Baja is wonderful and mostly immune to drug cartel violence but probably too far to go with your timeframe. Back in the day, the TJ Marriott (nice enough) was like 3-5000 points using my Marriott Rewards card. That was pretty much a free night just by using my card for groceries and gas for a few weeks. :)

I also lived in San Diego and visited often, fun place but really dangerous. They give you free shots of tequila with breakfast and American college girls age 18-20ish love stripping in bars when they get drunk. It makes it interesting, your own values can decide if its good or bad.

I have a Nexus card to get back to the States, thats cut my wait time by a ton. The most I ever wait is maybe 20 minutes.

I would recommend that you are careful and stay aware of your surroundings, having been there several times, but not for over ten years. I never liked the place, but have heard that there are some nicer areas now with good restaurants.

I agree with SoBad's suggestion about driving a few hours down the Baja, but the roads are dangerous and you may have to bribe cops who decide to pull you over for reasons they contrived, and you might have to do so on multiple occasions. Make sure you have cash to pay bribes if you drive there.

^^That’s a nice suggestion, sounds like good stop on the drive down.

LOL @ Arturo Tajonar – he should take a drive up and take lessons from Maximagq!

The lines to get back to the States are AMAZING long on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. If you do not have a Sentri or Nexus card it might not be worth your time to go unless you come back at like past midnight. Even with such long lines I noticed Mexican people do not cut in line like Chinese people in China. The worse line cutting culture in the world.

Since the lines were so long the Sentri/Nexus lines were blocked and I had to just walk past everyone and no one stopped me and said " dude are you cutting in line"? I do believe its about a 2-3 hr wait often, seems like the same for cars coming back.
