Any suggestions of your own?
It just seems like some are arguing that how a player plays the game should have no influence in his rating.
Sure, I have suggestions:
1. Eliminate the postseason. This removes most of the incentive for ratings shenanigans. Note how players do not underrate in Flex league. Since the majority of players don't make it through to the postseason anyway and play for the enjoyment of the regular season, this is not as extreme as it sounds.
2. Don't allow self-rated players to play in the postseason. This gives the computer time to catch up and reflect the player's ability. Dedicated sandbaggers may still sacrifice a year in order to win the following year, but that takes dedication. Not as effective as option 1, but perhaps easier for more people to accept. As it currently stands, the number of self rated players playing in the postseason as a percentage of all regular season players is low, so it does not affect as many players as one might think.
3. Give every player who plays one or more postseason matches a DNTRP 'bonus' of 0.2, in addition to whatever ratings adjustments would be made based on match results. This effectively means that a postseason player who is in the top half of level, even if not right at the top of level, is going to get bumped. This challenges the player to play at the higher level the following year while creating postseason opportunities for those that did not make the postseason previously.
