Has anyone seen the javelin-like German training device used by Elena Bovina
as seen in a profile done on her by the Tennis Channel?

It's very long and extremely flexible, with rubber stoppers (perhaps) on it near the ends. And setting the long pole in motion creates a gyroscopic motion and vibrations off in the device working the muscles and creating a therapeutic result for the arms, shoulders and joints.

At any rate, does anyone know what this device is?

My opinion of this plastic piece of crap would, obviously, fall into the "scam" category.

A few years ago this thing started appearing in the gym I belonged to. Signs were posted for classes and lessons using this fantastic gizmo. I didn't take any of the classes, but I picked it up and played around with it for a bit. In a few months, it was gone from all branches of the gym-probably because it was totally useless.

But hey, you can always punch a hole in both ends of the thing, tie a string through the holes and then use it as a bow to kills pidgeons and crows. Might work better than the original function...

Didn't you see? There's an XXXXXXXTREME workout on the website that has 10 sets of 20 pigeon-shooting reps! It increases abdominal tone by 453.21% in just 20 seconds!

But seriously, I guess the thing could work. You can probably get the same effect from a grip trainer and using a medicine ball to do a lot of your exercises.
