Why isnt there an "odds and ends" section only for tennis matters???? Why does my tennis thread have to be next to a thread saying "I love techno"?? Dont get me wrong, i love tecno as much as the next guy! Not least the latest stuff from Dolly Parton, i could go on, but does it really belong next to a thread about tennis?? I dont think so!

Tennis odds and ends? What tennis post do you have in mind that wouldn't fit in an existing forum?

I have several times been asked to move a thread from eg instruction section to odds and ends. Plenty tennis threads in the odds and ends section dont belong in any other currentlu existing section.

Here's an idea: if it's not tennis-related, simply don't click on it. Capiche? Further, there's a "Questions" section where you can address the TW staff directly. Actually I think you have a good idea in separating the "tennis" from the "miscellaneous." The one-track emo fanboys would sure love ya for it. ;-)

I believe the OP was proposing a separate a "Tennis Odds & Ends" section (a reasonable request) and not taking it upon himself to suggest who (and what) gets to post here by gutting the existing Odds & Ends section.

Odds & Ends is the new Rants and Raves. :)

What topic would not fit into one of the myriad tennis related categories that are already on the board?

The "Tennis Odds and Ends" section already exists...it's just called "General Pro Player Discussion"!

Or maybe he meant the "Other Equipment" section where you can talk about sweatbands, bandanas, visors, and where you can buy a western grip.

I guess I use "Adult League and Tournament Talk" like a tennis odds & ends, just because there's some interesting stuff. When they get into how to captain a team and DQs and ratings, boring...

yes and a string fabrication section solely for tennis threads.......

Why do posters ask for examples of what im talking about?? Just go to this section and see for urself! Or let me help u: A poll on best female players' legs (No not Azarenka!) does not belong in any other section but also not next to "Obama DID call it a terrorist attack!"

Whoa! That brings back memories of Phil, a former all-time great TW poster who used it as his avatar.

Could never get my fill of Phil's posts. A very, very sharp man.

R&R was full of right-wing haters who used to pick up talking points from Fox and start posting them. They would be nowhere to be seen on any other part of the forum. I suspect some of them were guys employed by front-end companies on behalf of politicians who were paid to pose as ordinary people in various unrelated forums.

    yep ....

    Total.

    Revisionist.

    History.

As a registered Independent (with contempt and disgust at what each "side" and their respective partisans have turned into) I can only say that while R&R was littered with partisan hacks from both sides of the aisle (both wingnuts & moonbats), it wasn't even close. For every right-wing loon such as Objective Danny, there were 10 left-wing hacks such as Chess9 who himself was easily the biggest one-trick-pony instigator of them all, on either side.

If you can take off the partisan blinders for a second, you'll recall it was Chess9 who would ON A DAILY BASIS post a left wing-slanted story from a left-wing source as some ipso facto platform from which to launch one of his political troll threads. And you'd never see him contribute to any tennis discussions...by the way, notice how he dissappeared when R&R was shut down, a section that was shut down in large measure because of the corrupted atmosphere that he and others of his corrosive ilk cultivated. A forum where ernest, forthright discourse was compromised and eventually contaminated into extinction.

I had no problem with him or anyone else expressing their point of views. It was the "M.O." employed by snakes such as him and people like him *not to mention the b.s. tenor of your absurd assertions above* that I take issue with. You loons flat-out wrecked it for the rest of us.

Others such as Bartelby would look for anything with a "US bashing" theme and if need be, to keep his own thread alive by having a conversation with himself, posting 3, 4 and even 5 posts in succession so as to pile on his contentions, i.e. to "agree with himself" - lol. Fortunately the angry young man made up for it with his engaging, upbeat mien and his ever-at-the-ready winning sense of humor. :smirk:

Rants & Raves was hardly the province or the overwhelming domain of the wingnut faction. As for the 2nd half of your jibberish (in blue), are you ef'in kidding me? "Front-end companies?"...."Politicians?!!" .... this is a TENNIS board. Are you an angry delusional headcase or what?

    :)

For years and years Fox rightists dominated rants and raves.

I stumbled across the political content and went back throught the years at the time so I was astonished to find this flourishing right wing political world as I never knew it existed.

I decided to join in and offer a discordant political perspective and I gathered a few allies in the process.

I was initially ignored, but then ...

The Fox right exploded into anger and started to hit the moderation button so hard and so often that the whole thread was shut down over night.

At the time of the first Wikileaks exposure the discussion was repressed.

Yes, I researched this at the time and the right wing commentary was going on for years virtually unchallenged.

The most infamous thread was the Obama is not American one that lasted forever.

Of course it was. No need need to repeat, repeat my *ah hem* unassailable contention.

Never knew that a different politcal school of thought existed? Really? Well you don't strike me as a naive idiot, far from it, so your professed ingorance of this right-wing beast's existence comes off as disingenous, self serving b.s., i.e. "I had to come in and rescue the board from this monster that I HAD NO IDEA EXISTED!!!". Pleeeasssee. The picture I referenced in my previous post (originally posted by the venerable Mike Bulgakov) was the avatar of a poster 'Phil' who was in my opinion an awesome, entertaining and a very bright left winger who was anything but a wallflower, i.e. Phil could bring it with the best of them. Another non-wallflower poster was Fee (still on the board) who was very left of center. Both of them were a delight. Further, they were here YEARS before you, so to claim R&R was the sole domain of neo-cons is bosh.

No you didn't. You sought to (at every opportunity) single out the U.S. in one cherry picking thread after another. All the US's warts aside, if there was some egregious transgression happening elsewhere, that was pretty much a no-comment issue since it wouldn't fit inside your 'targeted' agenda.

*sob* You had a thread axed? Join the crowd-we all have.

Total bosh (repeat: the Phil, Fee, et al post above).

That idiotic thread WAS YEARS AFTER you joined this board.

Beyond all that, I can sum this up thusly: most of the Enlightened Coleaths, the Objective Danny's and those of their one-track, partisan ilk were not even true political conservatives in the strict sense of the word (esp. in foreign policy) but were Chaney-Bush-Rumsfeld NEO-cons. And on the other side of the political aisle, I saw in a thread that dealt with a basic American freedom pertaining to "separation of church and state" (i.e. no religion imposes itself on or in public institutions), you advocating disregarding the United States Constitution's 1st Amendment and throwing it out the window in the interests of advancing your "discordant political perspective." I and others, saw that not as true liberalism in the purest sense of the word (in this case, freedom from religious institution impositions) but as the new neo-liberalism: draconian and arbitrarily applied.
(Thread: Harvard to have to make an EXCEPTION to accomodate a person exercising at the fitness center on religious practice grounds). Strip away any political school of thought and broken down to its core, it was a you, a foreigner advocating abandonment of a Constitutional tenent for the sake of your politics.

    Period.

    I'm out. Later gator.

It was basically a mouthpiece for the well-funded right wing, posing as casual posters in a tennis board.

Are you sure you're thinking of Chess9, or perhaps melding him in with some other poster? While he was a liberal, I remember him as a pretty mild and pleasant older fella not prone to fights, and also very interested in fitness, cycling, and even tennis. He seemed to spend more time worrying about how to prevent tennis elbow than the vast right wing conspiracy.

As for his disppearing from the boards, he also disappeared for a while during the R&R days because he, like, died or something. Only to come back from the dead many, many months later. I know you remember that one...

If you're looking for a left wing poster boy who was equally as nutty as E.C., he ain't the guy. Maybe Superstition, or StormHolloway, or maybe someone else. (Though Storm could be all over the map, and was mostly about conspiracy theories.) But not good ole Chess9.

Overall, if memory serves, I'd say R&R was about 58% right wing and 42% left wing, to the extent it was either.

    I think you're both right.

Did stormholloway stop posting here? He was somewhat enigmatic. He would come across as reasonable or the voice of common sense in one thread - then I'd click on the next thread and he would have Halliburton wiring southern Manhattan with high explosives, unnoticed, in a weekend's time while the mossad were remote controlling wide body commercial jets.

What is this thread about, again?

Oh, come on. You know I'm much more right about this one. Admit it.

I'm too lazy to click search his user name to see when he last published here. I do recall him sending me a personal message the day they yanked R&R saying it was my fault, and I seem to recall some other posts of his after that dark day.

Storm was a nice guy in person. Played tennis with him once. And yeah, sometimes he was reasonable in threads, but too often veered into "the Trilateral Comission remotely progammed those holograms of planes to appear to hit the towers!" territory.

Ah the good ok' days. I remember someone arguing for a ban on interracial marriage in R & R and then I would read a psychotic post by TennisMaverick.

It seemed to me those Fox honks were just trying to get a rise out of people. The more you responded, the more they got off on it.
