I am afraid with the coming higher education money crunch and student loan bubble we are going to see more and more of these stories.

Seeing as they only had 3 D1 wins all year, this is an easy sport to cut as it likely lacks fan and booster support. Sad, but probably true.

This is going to split a lot of votes amongst a state that is passionate about both tennis and volleyball. Unfortunately, I would assume it will take a pretty big check to save men's tennis at Riverside.

I looked at that...2 non Americans out of 7 players. Tough to argue that is a factor. Plenty of international sand players that will start to funnel into the US.

I can never keep track of who's on which side of that debate. Outside of Mrbill and Tennishacker, of course.

If STUNT ends up being a Title IX sport, then you are going to see a lot more men's tennis teams falling to the wayside. USA Cheer has been pushing pretty hard for years.

The addition of one more additional choice for women's sports does not mean anything for men's tennis teams. Schools such as UC-Riverside have more choices of women's sports right now than they can fund. Having additional choices that no one cares about will not change anything. Does UC-R have women's rowing, gymnastics, etc., right now? No.

I am surprised this is the first story to come out of CA with the budget cuts looming, I see many more men's teams disappearing in the short run unfortunately.

Although I do not have a son, I feel really bad for American junior boys wanting to play college tennis. They already have to work so hard to compete for current available college spots.
Cutting Men's tennis team in favor of Women's sand volleyball just does not seem fair and make me feel sad as a parent.
The school is open for comments till next Monday. Hope it will not go through.

Actually, you as well as 10smom stand out. Mom more than you...I mean, anyone with mom in their screen name is obviously going to be very protective of their junior.
