Absolutely.....she's done really well. Next step to win a tour event, she's proved she can mix it with the top players. I wonder where she'll be this time next year?

Have we gotten over this idea yet or have you hit the gym to get ready for playing?
Where are your charges playing the rest of the season then?

RE Robson, I watched the final and thought it was a pretty close match, looked hot though, not sure what the temp was (watching the match with the tv mute'd) sure that had an effect, but the girl clearly has talent and frankly it would appear a lot less talented have won top level WTA events (and majors) in the past!

^^^Ultimately that's the problem Dave, if I'm going to play again I'll want to do it properly - which means gym'ing it again! Seems like a lot of work!

As for the team, most will take some time out, Luce is out in the States this week as she is trying to qualify for Singles Masters (our year end champs) and she has already qualified for Doubles Masters. A couple of other payers had already qualified, so they will be off too.

    cheers

I hadn't seen anything from Luce for a bit, being in the states would explain that.Fingers crossed.

RE playing, aside from not being able to get on court at the mo, when i do play what i find really disheartening is the feeling when you aren't able to do something if you could just spare the gym/fitness time it'd work.

Had a hit with the newly matched Blades with a poly at 50lbs.

Work very nicely together!! Stringing up the other 2 exactly the same.

Well i'm glad my misery has company!!! Last summer I worked out i played 4 league matches (i don't appear at the club often enough to be a regular player) against other clubs, but i only played at 3 club night social mix ins between that, It's not enough to be anthing like consistent even at the depths to which i seem to of sunk.
Then I read posts like Joes, who's young and able to play still...... ;-)

Just started working at an LTA High Performance Centre as a Strength and Conditioning coach. It's amazing how uncoordinated some of these supposedly good tennis players are when it come to movement. I was never that retarded looking when I was their age.

Agreed. It was an incredibly unprofessional comment. If I was an junior, I'd hate to have the misfortune of working with someone with jazar's attitude.

^^^Regardless Jamie, I still suggest you edit your comment. The LTA will not take comments like that lightly and the comms team do keep an eye on social media and the like. One assumes you are happy to have gotten the job, it would be a shame to jeopardise that straight away.

On a side note, which HPC are you at?

Let's be fair, Jamie does have tourettes and the lta do have to take their quota......

Seriously jay tho even tho what you say may indeed be true its the manner in which you say it that causes offence. We know you may not give a rats arse but it does make you out to be much younger than you are.

To say nothing of those who may have family or friends who have real cognitive disabilities. It is just so much better to say "I was surprised by quite how uncoordinated they were for supposedly good players..." (or whatever).

    Just come back from a hit with a 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1. . . .

    I hate my life.

    Strengths - Serve, Return
    Weaknesses - Groundstrokes and Movement

Starting a training programme effective of tomorrow to :

    Loose weight
    Become more agile
Start hitting with the 4.1 once a week

No, it would be better to have said, I'm looking forward to helping the players improve their movement and foot coordination. Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

I take your point but it is possible to find fault with people. You - and I - might prefer a purely positive approach but if he is going to identify a problem it is better to simply identify the problem. Not use a needlessly charged word. Biting the hand that feeds him is another matter.

of course it is, but you don't (or shouldn't) criticise on a public form, when as i have already advised it could well be monitored. In private it's my job to find fault with people (and then help them correct it), but I would never dream of coming on a public forum and calling them "retarded" or similar for having faults. It's highly unprofessional and very disappointing to see from an educated guy like Jamie.

If Jamie edits his original post I will happily edit my comments accordingly.

I think I disagree with you about that. It is a public forum so you have to be careful. But nobody expects young players to have anything other than room for considerable improvement. So it is hardly a surprise that they do. In these circumstances to state the obvious is not controversial. But the way that it is said is very important. There is no reason to cause offence - to the players themselves or to other readers of the boards.

First Mens Doubles matches tomorrow! Really can't be bothered - 14 days straight of tennis starts to get old.

Hopefully will be some good competition but I'm not sure how strong the league is, guess we will find out tomorrow!

    Blades are still undefeated. :)

Had to post - we got dropped!

Hit with some new wilson's at the weekend as a player of mine was trying some new frames out - new juice 96 coming in Jan (based of the old Wilson Tour Henin hold), nice looking frame, plays a bit like a pure drive but with more feel (less stiff I assume). Would probably suit those looking to swap from frames like IG extreme, pure/aeropro drive, 0zone tour etc. Also tried new Blade 101, looks long as head shape is quite narrow, deffo one for a big swinging baseliner!

    cheers

I'm not sure how technically minded you are Ross, but some notes in case you're concerned about this email:

    - There are two primary ways something like this happens. The first is called spoofing, and is when someone sends an email and makes it look like it came from you. The other is to access an account and actually send it from within. The obvious thing to check is your sent mail - if these emails are there, then the account has been compromised.

    - Change the password to your email account.

    - Check the settings in your email account. You may well have a second email associated with this account so that if you forget your password you can get it unlocked. Make sure this second email is correct and hasn't been changed.

    - If you have accounts with Amazon, Paypal, etc associated with this email address and use the same password, change that too. Unless you have the memory of a fish, use a different password to the email one. :)

    - Run a virus scan.

    - Make sure OS, browser etc. software is up to date.

Even if the account was compromised, it's far more likely that it was automated rather than someone physically doing it and poking about. If you were to sit down and hack into someone's account, you probably wouldn't alert them to it by sending spam email.

So I'd do a spot of housekeeping, but wouldn't be overly worried unless I saw any rogue activity elsewhere.

I thought that was great too, but the biggest mention wasn't being held up at gun point but that the hotel has his passport.AS if anyone needs one of those to get into the UK!
Now if he'd of been robbed of his racquet bag and asked to borrow one we'd probably be the one to send an email to, but money? No i don't have any actual cash, it's all in graphite!

I've had a similar thing before. A virus that got into my email a/c, then sent rogue emails with a dodgy link (to some Chinese retail website) to all of my contacts. If anybody opened the link the cycle would start again, everyone was pinging dodgy emails to everybody else for weeks........!

New passwords and some virus destruction sorted it out but it was a big PITA!

    UKRHs,

Thanks one and all. Yes, I was hacked on my mac. Sorry for the ludicrous begging messages saying how I'd been robbed in Italy etc. A complete PITA business, the aftermath of which has messed around with my yahoo account, ie my contacts/address book is completely erased and empty, saved email have all vanished, what were emails in my inbox are now in my trash... it's a bloody mess.

Have followed procedures (changed password, rejigged settings a bit, reported it, deleted actual virus email) and am looking into a few other measures.

Thanks Dags - great info there, very helpful.

    Gosh! Hope you're better orig.

Finally played again on Monday, hallelujah! The world is saved!

Seriously, it felt good. Armed the ball out of rust but had a blast!

I just wish there were indoor courts and a buzzing club where I am.

I have the indoor courts part of that equation...

Draws for the club tournament are up. 12 players in the men's singles. 10 pairs in the men's doubles. No sign of mixed or ladies' draws, which probably means there is none.

If I win my first singles match, in the second round I'll face the number 1 seed (he had a bye). I've been told he's 14. I'm really hoping I get through to face him, as I'd like to find out how I compare to a decent junior (probably get smoked, but my ego can cope with that. I think. :))

Getting there. Have been able to jog for a few weeks now for short periods and able to hit but not play if you see what I mean. Fingers crossed it will get sorted shortly. I don't even want to look at tennis on the TV at the moment!

Thanks Ross, they are saying it's going well but that I'll never have the same stability/range of motion. That and I've gotten fat(ter) being non-sporting in the meantime so it looks like a diet and some physio work for a while for me :(...

On the plus side I think I cured my "too many racquets" obsession

^^ I haven't seen it available in the UK yet, Ross. It's at TWE, but for €21.68 (plus shipping unless you order over €75). It had better be good at that price!

It's one I want to try, but I'm trying to use up a load of existing string first. The EXO3 Tour is helping with this, my relative lack of court time for the past 2 months not so much...

I had some 4G from Wimby, but I gave it to Jamie. Not sure if he's used it yet.
