You can live a happy life alone if you have social interactions, like tennis and other hobbies and work.. You don't need permission or compromise to do those things.

I never got married for the simple reason that I never met the right person. Had I met someone worth spending the rest of my life with, I would have gotten married. I don't regret not being married because single life is great, plus I know too many people who settled just so they could be married and they all regret it. Instead of making a goal of being married by a certain age, make a goal of creating a great life for yourself - you can have that married or single.
