Upgrading stringing machine

I've been stringing my rackets for about 5 months now. The machine I use is an old gamma drop weight machine I acquired from the person that gives me lessons. The machine is still in great condition but I'm looking to upgrade it. I'll most likely be buying the wise 2086 for more accurate tensions when I'm stringing. Nevertheless I've found that no matter how accurate my tension is, the clamps don't seem to hold tension very well. Is there any way I can upgrade the clamps as well? Can I buy metal clamps to install on the machine? Will this make holding tension easier? And is all this worth it or should I just buy a brand new machine?

If you are upgrading it is best to get as much machine as you can afford. Especially since you now have been stringing for a while, and you know that you will stick with it, a machine with good fixed clamps, a sturdy turntable, constant pull, a good brake system, and 6 point mounting is my bare minimum for requirements, and add a few more features and it makes the job that much more enjoyable. If it is more enjoyable, you will most likely do a better job of it. If you are going to go the electronic route, you may be best served to get an electronic machine from the start, rather than adding a Wise to a drop or crank.
Over time, string for some other hitters, (stringing a dependable consistent job) and the machine will eventually pay for itself.

I was going to ask that! Have you ever adjusted the clamps for string gauge? But certainly, clamps should be cleaned frequently since I think these are the diamond dusted plastic ones.

The wise would cost you close to $600. We are all assuming you are using floating clamps and the best by reputation are made by Stringway and would set you back another $100.

With that budget, new machines is an easy choice.
