Match Discussion thread. Should be a fun match. I'm predicting Federer in 5. I think the solid Spaniard will give him trouble, but he comes through in the end.

Facing the 17th seed in the 4th round is no joke.

    Federer in 4.

Especially not a 17th seed who's been showing pretty good form the past couple of months, but just try and explain *that* to a Nadal fan... ;)

Yup. I expect he will have his usual sleepwalker set again.

This is an appropriate time to remind everyone that this is one of the youngest Spanish players in the top 100 with Busta being the only "young gun" in the same bracket.

    Fed in 3.

OP putting RBA in the poll first nearly made me vote for RBA in 3.

Fed should try to finish early so he has enough energy for QF/SF.

It almost looks like the other side of the draw is almost set for the final while Fed has to play 4 more long matches.

Old Fed needs to make sure with his organizers that his side of the draw plays first at any tournament.

4 three set matches is too much for the old man to do in less than a week.

Also if Fed makes it to the semi final, it will be without even ONE day match. That is really bad

This is a guy who got just manhandled against Monfils in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago. I expect the same from Federer. No reason not to. Fear the shoes.

Blue/green Rogi vs Grano 3R, not Darth Fed so it was supposed to be a day match.

Too much everything from Rogi...pattern is set: 1R Aussie; 2R Aussie; 3R Spaniard; 4R Spaniard.

Rogi in 3. If pattern holds, maybe 4.

The ranking is not that important in this case.Guys who are inconsistent and are ranked low but have a big weapon can cause trouble on a good day;someone like Bautista Agut is a solid player but with no real weapons;it`s tough to beat the likes of Federer or any other top player just by playing rallies from the baseline.
For Federer, this opponent is perfect in trying to find his rhythm from the baseline. The first couple of rounds it was more of a serving contest with very few rallies.

Not sure why you want an upset.

Fed fans hoping Novak gets upset has meaning to it since Novak is in his prime and the man to beat. Most difficult opponent you can get in this tournament.

But Fed is 33 and susceptible to anyone. No big shakes beating the old man.

Easy cakewalk draw, playing only night matches, organizers wants their Feddy to be fresh as a daisy for the final...

Federer's form does not inspire confidence on the whole (in terms of having aspirations to win the whole thing, at least with me). I wonder if he can show a little more of his hand today...

    Federer on RBA

    Q. Now for sure we know you're playing Bautista next round. Your thoughts about him?

ROGER FEDERER: Never played him. I think he's done extremely well. Didn't he win three different tournaments on three different surfaces this year? He's quick on his feet. He doesn't miss much. He's consistent. He's got a pretty good first serve. He's overall a solid player. I would assume he's fit, too, because he comes from the Spanish tennis school, which they just know how to train hard. They never get tired. They're always ready to go. They have a good mental approach, point-for-point mentality. Then again, he's not the typical Spaniard with a lot of topspin. I mean, he plays unbelievably flat actually, which is very surprising for a Spaniard. But I'm looking forward to the match. Like I said, never played him.

Cup cakedraw after cup cakedraw. Fed the opportunist in 2009, is he going to take advantage of Nadal's absence once again?

Corrupt arssee US Open organizers. Giving Fed every advantage in the book between nice night matches and mug journeymen draws.

Its obvious they are doing everything in their power to ensure he makes the final at least

Let's not write off Agut till at least the end of the 2nd set, there's a reason he's now 15th in the Live Atp Rankings.

People are so disrespectful towards RBA. He's a solid baselineplayer and is #14 in the race. He's underrated because he's only been doing well for a few years but I think he might surprise a few people here, especially if Federer starts as sloppy as he did against Granollers.
