I use Dunlop Fort balls which still come in the 3 ball metal containers. It seems such a waste to just throw away the empty containers. Any suggestions for a good use of these empty containers -- nice polished solid metal, but with a plastic cover?

What about emty plastic 3 ball containers?

I guess you can use them as water bottles.
Other than that I'm not sure I have ever seen modern metal ball cans - way too expensive to produce.

Put paper over them, and draw pretty patterns on them. Then hang 4 or 5 of them from a peice of wood and use them as a wind chime. Thats what my club does

Like in WImbledon the movie. I could quite possibly be the only hetero man on the earth who liked that movie. The tennis was crap, but I liked the portrayal of the journeyman lifestyle and the mental aspects.

Haha lol you're right about the tennis being crap in it but I liked the friendship between the main guy and the other tour player (from Germany). They talk about things related to being on tour and just small stuff like "Same time tomorrow for practice?"
Did you see In Good Company. There's only two small skits where Scarlett is schooling first dad in the movie Dennis Quaid, then Topher. But they aim the camera from behind so it's someone else really hitting it. To great effect.

I just recently saw Matchpoint and again, the tennis was shotty but there's this great scene where the main guy meets up with a friend he played on the tour with (same thing) and they get together and just talk about stuff and his problems. Guy stuff. Gotta love it.

    Actually,

my team usually forgets to bring water bottles or jugs. So we do use the ball cans for water bottles. They work well actually, but you might want to rinse them out before you use them. If you dont, you gonna have the taste of the ball in your water

I always keep a few empty cans in the car. They are great pee containers. I live my life on the road so, these things matter.

Of all the serious uses suggested (loose change containers, target practice, etc) mrw's suggestion of pee containers has got to be the most practical. Unfortunately, I can't really use them this way as I live in Hong Kong where urinals are readily available. So the best application is where large quantities of the container is required, reasonable volume per container, can be sealed if necessary, and where used container will be disposed of. Now, if we can think of a current or new application along these lines, we can start a new business...

Best use was in Orlando. While playing a USTA match against Puerto Rico, freakin fans kept pounding the open end of the cans on top of the tables and benches during our doubles match, with the match score 2-2, winner goes to the freakin semis of the Nat'l championships. Natch, we lost or would be Beeyatchin bout it.
