Don't put any stock in what you say today form Rafa. The coms talked about Gasquet needing to red-line, well, Nadal was firmly resting in second gear. Like every intelligent tennis player on planet Earth, he measures risk versus reward on a second by second basis. After the first game of the match (probably before they even got on court), Nadal knew that his B- game was enough to hold Gasquet at bay.

Likewise, Nadal knows that his A+ game is needed against Nole. Nole didn't need to do much in the fourth and fifth set today because he realized that keeping the ball in play was going to do the trick. It's so easy to see how these players calibrate for their opponent. All that goes out the window Monday as the fiercest rival of their respective careers stand on the other side of the net.

5-10 points will decide the match as it has since 2.0 Nole was born.

Another battle on the cards. Tough one to predict. Expect some really long rallies and brutal physicality put to test.

either Nadal in 4 or 5. I want to see 5, but 4 feels more right. I choose 5 though just to anti-jinx it.

In-form Gollum to beat out-of-form sub-par Legolas on Monday.

Why not? He hasn't lost yet on hard courts this year and barely dropped a set making the final.

Whoever wins the first set will take the match.
****** seems more favored to do so because he comes with guns blazing with first point - with all that fist clinching and chimp-jump associated with it. Joker, like most other players need few games to get into momentum. That difference can be the key in this match.

Do you have to attack Rafa every time you comment about something related to him?

This one really is too close to call but I wouldn't put too much stock into how Rafa presented himself today to judge for Monday.

The conditions were windy, he was playing one of the guys he is closest to on tour and he knew right from the get-go that he didn't need much to beat Richie, who only has a great BH but not much else.

For most of this match Rafa looked like he never left second gear. His returns were making Richie look like Sampras at times, his passing shots were off for the most part, his forehand didn't go for the lines like in past matches. Only the BH was pretty solid.

Rafa needs better returns and more across the body finishes if he wants to put Djokovic down in a HC slam.

    Nadal in 4.
His body is rested, his mind strong.
Novak will fight, like always but it won't be enough.

The bookies have it about right:

    Rafa 4/7
    Djokovic 11/8

One thing is for sure: Novak 2.0 won't be enough if Rafa 3.0 shows up.

Rooting for Novak, Rafa definitely starts as a slight favourite though.

The matches they've played lately on HC have been very close, so they could have gone either way. HC is Novaks favourite surface and he's currently the best HC player out there. Also, Novak is 1 year younger and says he knows how to beat Nadal. Nadal peaked like 4 years ago while Djokovic peaked 1 or 2 years ago.

Djokovic is going to take this one, probably in 5 sets though.

That match was a lot more one-sided than the score looked. If that had been best of 5 Rafa would have won going away. Just too good and too much power.

This season's form suggests Novak is not the best HC player, Rafa is. Hence the odds.

The way I see it, if Rafa brings his A game and is aggressive he can't lose. He hits harder on both wings, has more margin for error, is serving better and is better at the net. He is also fitter if it becomes an absolute marathon. Novak has the better ROS and slightly more nimble movement, but that's it. Mentally (this season at least) Rafa also has the edge too.

Djokovic's game is too weak to beat Powerful Nadal.

Nadal is hitting the ball stronger, serving better.
The only thing that Djokovic does as good as Nadal is moving fast.

Have to go with Rafa in four. Looks pretty damn good and Novak just isn't firing. He's pretty reliable for finding an extra gear or three though. Hopefully he does. He'll have to.

Both are bad and are missing crucial features required for the slam final match thread and poll. I say we need a new one.

If this was a night match with zero wind I think Nadal may drop a set.
But since it's not I go with Nadal in 3 6-3 6-2 7-5 and he won't be broken

This one is a fine. People wanted a poll and this thread has one.

You're not entitled to having it public you know. Nobody owes you any kind of answer as to why they voted for whatever, and nobody needs to "defend" their vote either. Get over yourself.

Djokovic has the best return in the world, not as your hero Murray, who didn't have a single break point against Wawrinka, LOL

Nadal in four sets. It is fitting last for these two players to play in the finals of the last major of the year. I think that Nadal is playing too well. He also looks like he has plenty of energy to basically go all out this match. He'll need to serve really well as those free points on serve can really take the pressure off for him at key stages.

I've been at the USO a lot over the past two weeks and let me tell you based on what I have seen and heard, Nadal is going to have a BIG crowd support advantage over Djokovic. I think it'll be something like 70%-30% in favor of Nadal or maybe even more, that is also going to be a factor in this match knowing how irritated Djokovic gets when the crowd is against him.

Didn't make a difference in 2011 or 2012 AO where the crowd strongly favoured Nadal over Djokovic.

He's been wiped off the court a few times though in straights against Tsonga and Del Potro.
