Venus has won 7 of the last 8 points and seems to be hitting the ball way better. This is her chance at 15-30 to break...

LOL the opening was there to break Pova but Venus mucks it up yet again with all those smothered forehands. Ahhhhhhhh....

I try. To help balance out the overwhelming stupidity that is the "General Pro Discussion" section.

Not you guys who actually watch matches and make statements accordingly, but those idiots who make wild accusations and claims like they know the pros as if they're related or something.

And I'm sorry, I don't care for the way Sharapova carry herself on the court.

You're up a set, up a break already in the 2nd set, you don't need a "COME ON!" after another winner.

Is Venus officially one of the chumps now, or is it just Pova's loud hooting bothering her too much?

This I don't mind. Being passionate about winning a point signals a respect for the opponent's ability to still be dangerous in the match.

Oh no, I get that. I too would slam the door on my opponents. But if I'm winning by that much already, I wouldn't be vocal about it and rub it in.

It's not about showing respect for your opponent, it's about being competitive. Alabama killed Notre Dame in the championship game but they were still acting like it was a close game (even to the point of looking disrespectful like MaSha is) all the way to the end.

I don't think so. She's going to have bad days, and she'll have some good ones too, though I think she's going to have her best days in doubles. I continue to pull for her.

Plus, Maria is just playing out of this world tonight. Might have been tight with Serena, too.

    OK, I can see that.

In other news, Maria is treating her 5-1 service game like it's 6-6 in the 3rd set of the final.

And what exactly is so great about her? I'll give her mental toughness, but lets not forget on a night when she isn't "on" like tonight she is just as likely to play tennis as ugly as Venus's in this match.

Sharapova has two game plans: hit hard, and then hit harder.

lol that was horrendous shot selection. Why did she swing right through a ball that was so low? It was a straight beam into the bottom of the net.

And also for inspiring a whole generation of young tennis players to adopt her flawed strokes and forms. It's one thing to have a giant serve and need shoulder surgery down the road, but she didn't. Her forehand puts so much stress on the shoulder. The shoulder can only externally rotate so much.

Also ushering the new condition for the younger players: netphobia.

Then the gamesmanship, not cheating, just gamesmanship.

Venus got that break due to errors. She's probably going to hand it right back.

Wow, Maria screamed like she just won Wimbledon after finishing off Venus. At least the 2nd set kinda looked like a match there at the end.

She plays kind of an ugly game, but she did give credit to Venus' quality by treating every game of that match so seriously.

Don't get me wrong, she wins, and you have to respect that. But I feel like she isn't contributing anything in a positive way to the game as a whole.

poor Venus wasn't at her best today and Sharapova playing out of her mind, possibly the best tennis i've ever seen her play. i wish she would have more variety of shots tho instead of just constant ball bashing.
