I am surprising my wife with a 20 yr wedding anniversary trip to Indian Wells next week as we are both avid tennis players. Besides the tennis we will be playing, what are some other sites and activities we should check out? How about some good local restaurants?

IW and the next city, Palm Desert, have the usual array of restaurants you would expect.

Palm Springs (I think 15 mins away) is the place for high-end shopping and dining.

Anza Borregos State Park should not be too far away either.

    TU87,

How exciting! I was actually grew up in Indian Wells area so I can hopefully help you with any questions you need.

I wrote this blog a year ago about things to do at BNP Paribas Open (in Indian Wells) that could help.

    http://blog.tenniswarehouse.com/tou...personal-tour-guide-for-the-bnp-paribas-open/

There is a lot of golf, hiking, spas, jeep tours, and other things to do and see.

If you have any restaurant questions, I would be happy to help.

Palm Springs is about 25-35 minutes away but also fun to go check out.

    Brittany, TW

I'm not a big hiker or anything, but I really enjoyed the Indian Canyons hike, pretty cool.

Nice Blog Brittany with a lot of good ideas, thanks. We like to hike as well so I'll have to look into the Indian Canyons hike.

Maybe check out the spas in Desert Hot Springs? I think it's about 20 or 30 miles west of Indian Wells.

I didn't get out there when I went to IW this year but a neighbor mentioned the natural mineral hot springs there are worth checking out. Just google up Desert Hot Springs spas, (I guess). I would imagine it would be a good idea to soak after a day of tennis, hiking, etc.

Just to update, we had an excellent time last week in Indian Wells. Stayed at the Esmeralda Resort. Hiking, went on the tram and of course tennis at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. If anyone is looking for a tennis vacation not a tennis camp, I would recommend Indian Wells. The staff at the Tennis Garden was great.
