JC Ferrero's final tournament. So sad to see both a great tennis player and a great gentleman leave the game. :(

In regards to the tennis, it's wide open with a very strong field (stronger and more balanced than Basel). Can Granollers defend his title?

Wildcards are Leyton Hewitt, Tommy Robredo and JCF.

So he is going to play?

I'm both excited and surprised (though it will be a struggle; I was just reconciling myself to the game without him).

Nice too that Tommy R. has a wildcard. I love the matches with the "old guard" they know each others' games, and it's very competitive.

Ferru is playing, and he owns part of the tournament; this is his home tournament.

Plus their H2H is 3-1, or something, in Ferru's favor.

I like Milos, and I could see him making the final, but if Ferru is on the other side ...

Definitely don't think Raonic will win this one; Tipsy, Ferrer or JO-W will be too good for him

Some interesting first round matches! Sad about King Juan Carlos' 1R draw.
But you never know with Nico. Vamos a ver.

Why no Monaco? not even mentioned in the "other" options?
last year finalist, and recent 1st hard court title

he has a lot more chances than Almagro i think.
funny Almagro never even reached a final on hard

Hewitt's going to knock him out, sorry mate

In all seriousness, I agree. Bit stiff to leave him out.

Weird how Almagro's best friend on tour is Ferrero and he might be the one to send him into retirement..I'm calling rigged draw :)

Maybe trying to avoid a "final run" to title for the retiring guy and let the other active spaniards earn the points for the next year

Anyone else have a soft spot for Ram? I saw him play a few years ago in Indy so I've rooted for him ever since.

    Because Isner's return-of-serve isn't very good.

Hewitt stops Monaco in Valencia 500

Former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt dealt a blow to Juan Monaco’s outside hopes of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as he defeated the fourth-seeded Argentine 6-3, 6-4 on Monday in the first round of the Valencia Open 500.

    ^^ More winners!

Sam Q continues his upwards march, taking out a Spaniard in Spain. Lopez is dangerous especially indoors.

    Good job by Samarai!

Looks like Almagro in next round.

Also, congratulations to Ferru for his victory over O. Rochus. They're matched in height, and Ollie fought fiercely today.

JCF would be upset if Nico didn't offer his best effort.

(He'll probably be out the next round in any event.)

    I'm sad too though.

And JCF makes it a love game.
At least Nico has to serve it out.

(Also, you know it's never over till it's over.)

He cited back, but it's probably more fatigue and needing to rest for Paris + WTF.

He played in Metz (W), Beijing (F) and Stockholm (F). He just needed another 500 tournament to meet the requirements.

Goffin wins a hard fought game and breaks for 3-3 on his 7th BP! Go Goffin! Why aren't they showing this match live?!

And he races to a 4-3 lead with a 2nd serve ace!

Isner DFs and it's 2 MPs for Goffin!:)

He takes the 1st one! GSM Goffin 7-6(2) 4-6 6-4. Goffin can have a good run here now that Tsonga and Tipsy are out in his half, Raonic will be his largest challenge.
