Just watching the tennis and noticed that Verdasco is using a blacked out racket. I know there was talk of him going to Dunlop or Yonex but thought he would be using it?

    Thanks guys,

    Harry.

par for the course that any man using a Dunlop has it blacked out!

I believe he is testing frames at the moment so using the blacked out TF for the time being until he finds something he likes or they repaint his current racquets (see Rafter, Blake, etc)

It is indeed his old stick with 3/4 of it painted black. Thats interesting. Was someone too lazy to finish the job? Or are they hinting that he'll use a 300, or at the paint of a 300?

Is it even painted? I would guess they just put some black masking tape over the white text on the hoop, before stringing them.

    to OP - Harry

they certainly did paint the original bullitt frame - he will not change that quickly, this is a compromise to keep TF, Dunlop and Yonex happy...:)

Reality is that no one company will be satisfied till he stencils and advertises one racquet brand.

It could be a long wait.

Spelt (Triticum spelta) is a hexaploid species of wheat. Spelt was an important staple in parts of Europe from the Bronze Age to medieval times; it now survives as a relict crop in Central Europe and has found a new market as a health food. Spelt is sometimes considered a subspecies of the closely related species common wheat (T. aestivum), in which case its botanical name is considered to be Triticum aestivum subsp. spelta.

I think because Fernando wants the shoe to have a more custom fit for stability and comfort. :)

    Also, from the OED,
Spelt, [Cf. German spelzen to husk] v. To husk or pound (grain); to bruise or split (esp. beans.)

    Back to the painted racket;

Surely painting part of the racket is changing it's weight, balance and stiffness? Just a thought...

Apparently Verdasco was recomended trying the large tounge by Rafa. The large tounge should be featuring on his next barricades too.....

he switched racquets during the berdych match and he pulled a fresh one out of a technifibres plastic bag. maybe they should have blacked out the plastic bag also.haha

From what I have heard he left Yonex for Dunlop but is still using a Technifibre frame.

That's because Tecnifibre is the official stringer there, everyone except P1 clients will have the plastic Tecnifibre bag.

The genius's actually have part herringbone sole, the original clay court sole (zig zag lines). So they are acually quite suited to clay. They are also, stable, low to the ground and reasonably light. Saying that, as far as i'm aware, Verdasco's have a completely flat herringbone sole, to be a proper clay shoe. Like, for example, Rafa's shoes.

And anyone know why in the final Verdasco pulled a fresh racket out of a P1 bag and not a tournament bag like he'd been doing earlier in the week.

I don't know what others have seen but I noticed Verdasco take a freshly strung racquet out of a P1 bag in the match against Berdych, so I was surprised to see people mentioning Tecnifibre.

Not strange at all. It's actually pretty typical type of stuff that goes on behind the scenes on the pro tour!

If he is not signed yet, they probably set their sights on prospecting him as a client and were marketing him at that tournament by offering to do up some of his racquets for free to convince him of the benefits of signing up with them and spending extra to become one of their gold contract players instead of using the standard stringing service. Meanwhile they got free branding advertisement by having fans see him pull his sticks out of their bags:wink:

Pretty tame stuff compared to everything else that goes on behind the scenes.

    cheers,

    Racquetcraft

Just old 2008 TF Tfight 320 (325?) XL he used before, painted black. It is actually a 18*20 pattern.
He has no contract anymore with TF, no red triangle on strings anymore... I dt know and dt care he keeps this situation goin' on, as he recovered at least a good level of play by taking his Tecnifibres back !
His play with Yonex was terrible... couldn't serve ! It was not worth the try, this racket change...

It is always worth a try..changing rackets but it is a big money thing, agents fees involved, coaches, a player's form and playing style and how much time a player has to adjust...lots of variables and for most players not worth the hassle...not at this level.
It must have been an interesting offer from Yonex and technifibre will be negotiating now with Dunlop. It could be very messy and that is the agents job to sort it out. fernando just has to keep taking care of business...on the court.

Couple of points, he uses a standard length stick Major Bullit Elite painted like a TF, it is a 16X19 and he won a final versus Roddick with the Yonex so maybe he wasn't all bad with it ;)
