February 8th. Who will win?
Sampras via Verdasco choke.
Those who stand to gain financially from the match.
This will be interesting. A poor man's Sampras vs. a poor man's Nadal.
I can't wait to watch this match!
Verdasco's my favorite player, but I think Sampras will get him in 3 sets.
I also think there's other players at this exhibition like Roddick, Hewitt, Fish, Dent, Querrey, and Haas.
Sorry but it is Fixed.
This. Although Verdasco could help himself by not choking away big matches.
I think Verdasco will win. Or at least he should win.
Verdasco only because he's in the tennis prime right now.
One of them will win in a third set tiebreaker. Sampras fans will think he can still play on the tour.
Who ever win it doesn't matter b/c it's exo. They are out there to entertain the fans rather than being too serious.
I'd like to see Nadal/Sampras before either of them get too old.
Verdasco. I think in their primes it would have been Sampras without a doubt, but Verdasco will probably just hammer away at Sampras' back hand.
If they were going to play seriously, I don't think Sampras would stand a chance. However, since it's going to be an exhibition, they are probably more going to be looking to entertain the crowd, and I don't know where it's being played, but if it's in America, possibly fix it so Sampras wins it.
Sampras would have a chance if the courts were lightining quick... But it's all moot anyway.
Sampras has a chance b/c it's exo. Plus, playing in San Jose will likely be fix for him to win.
verdasco will get to match point and then choke, which sampras capitalizes and win in 3 sets.
You know I thought Fed allowed Sampras to win a set or two to make things interesting for the fans. You may be right.
Fedace in 3.
It's an exhibition. Verdasco might let Sampras win. At the very least, he'll allow it to be very close. Watch for Verdasco to hit balls into the stands when he's up by too much.
Depends, if Verdasco really tries, then he'd clean Pete's clock.
Pete will get this one.
it's an exo...players r there to entertain....not to win...i can bet my house that it will go 3 sets
Any more info on this? Links etc?
Sampras will destroy.
Now that you mention it, that's exactly what he did when he was winning v Fed in the YEC. He's done it a few times now v Fed, it's more than a bit suspect.
Pete will win, Verdasco can't handle big servers. He trys to take huge swings at 130+ bombs and ends up miss timing the ball into the stands. Plus if Fernando gets into the lead he will probably choke.
I honestly find he is a bit of a stupid player on court, in addition to being mentally weak. He is talented and fun to watch though.
Lucky for verdasco, pete isnt a big server by todays standards
I just hope verdasco can find a way to serve to pete's forehand. Otherwise its going to be a very ugly match.
shhhhhhh....don't let thenatural and cesc know...they actually still believe sampras beat federer for real...
Before the match get started, they will secretly tell Fernando to keep it close as possible.
It's an exhibition, people. We might as well talk about who will win between Will Farrell and Agassi versus Mardy Fish and Jon Lovitz.
I don't know about stupid but he has made some bad decisions, I saw his match against Djokovic at the US Open and there's no reason why he couldn't have won. Nole, played horribly in the first set and was still able to take it from Verdasco.
I cant believe people are serious about Pete winning this
If both goes 100% it would be 6-3,6-2 if its a relatively fast court.
Oh to Verdasco i might add
Will it be televised?
Anyway, Verdasco will win the full head of hair contest.
gonna say verdasco...anyone know what channel it will be on?
Verdasco was really close to beating Federer 3 weeks ago for Gods sake!!
Verdasco isnt there to win the match, he is there to put on a good show and let pete win.
But that has a high likelihood of not happening - who in America wants to see one of their greatest champions go out and get smoked? Of course, Verdasco will probably win because if he doesn't some idiotic columnist will throw into question the state of the game.
lol I doubt that. If Pete serves and volleys all day then he's going to have some problems, if Verdasco plays his best he should win comfortably in straight sets. I don't remember the court speed of San Jose, depending on the court speed it will favor one player over the other.
^ No chance of Verdasco playing his best. Seriously, Sampras would be the first to say that an exhibition doesn't make you play your best tennis. Pete was a guy who continuously said that only the Slams really mattered. It's the off season, Verdasco gets paid the same win or lose, there are no ranking points or history at stake, nobody is really trying. If they televise the match, watch how much even Pete will be joking around then ask yourself if Pete used to joke with the crowd in his playing days. See how much Verdasco jokes around, laughs, and applauds Pete. It's a hit and giggle. They're going to make sure it's close.
Verdasco. in straights
Sour grapes from Sampras. He's retired but wants his fans to talk up his standing with Fed so he plays these exhibitions to prove he is above Fed's level.
He could play on the Champions tour with the rest like Pioline, Courier, Mac, Leconte but didn't he lose some of those matches?
Verdasco should win this, which is probably why he won't. Sampras beats mental midget in 3.
I really want to see this match. I love watching Pete post retirement going up against the current crop. He still looks great and hits serves like nobody else can. Where can I order this match and all his previous post-retirement matches cause it probably won't be shown where I live?
Sampras could definitely take this under the right playing conditions. If its a surface like Macau he could overwhelm Verdasco pretty easy with his attack. And we know what kind of a headcase Verdasco is as well
Yea well. Sampras did alright for himself even against Fed in those exos. And being that they were only exos, they still showed Pete has some gas left in the tank and his serve is still a force to be reckon with even though hes near 40 years old
The Sampras v. Verdasco match is the only exhibition match. The rest is the ATP event. It's in San Jose.
lol. pete has no chance fast or slow if verdasco goes out at 100%.
