I've been following his progress since 2008, when I noticed him consistently getting to 3R and 4R of the majors. Watching him step up in his first three tournaments of the year was quite impressive. Most impressive has been his maturity at his age and his ability to put mistakes behind him and focus on the current point.

He has an excellent first serve and a very effective high kicker for a second. His forehand, while tentative, is very versatile as he can flatten it down the middle or spin it away to create an angle. Same with his backhand. His return of serve is very effective, especially with his long reach, and his movement is fluid, which could mean that his career will not be riddled with injuries. He has the potential to be a complete player if he can stay on course to develop his game. And given his mentality, I believe he can.

Barring injuries, I believe he will be a multiple major champion in the future. As I said, very high hopes.

    Relax folks, ...
I really like watching Cilic move on the court. I find him smooth and stylish but yet somehow he seems to lack a special flair that usually the very top players have. He seems to think well and clearly, and be mentally very tough and has an excellent work ethic.

I'm already a fan but somehow I don't see him winning anymore than possibly 1 major.

"Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

    The grass was greener
    The light was brighter
    With friends surrounded
    The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
    There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

    The grass was greener
    The light was brighter
    The taste was sweeter
    The nights of wonder
    With friends surrounded
    The dawn mist glowing
    The water flowing
    The endless river

    Forever and ever"

    High Hopes,

I agree. Cilic is clearly very talented and has much room to improve, but I can't see him dominating the game the way I see Murray and Novak stepping up in coming years.
