Just curious, when they change to new balls and the player get a new racquet out of their bag, they take the dampener out of the old racquet and put it in the new racquet. Why ? why don't they just keep dampeners all their racquets so they don't have to do this. its not like they are expensive or that they buy them?

True, there not expensive for a pro, but what's the point of putting a dampener on every racquet they string. In most cases they don't use all of the racquets anyways. It's a lot easier to just take it off and put it on the new racquet.

Superstitious perhaps? Some people don't like how dampeners "stretches" out the mains (especially those smaller ones), and they think it has "some effect" on the mains?

I used to HATE putting on string savers on my other frames ahead of time, because I thought the "prying" of string savers on the strings had some effects on the stringbed.

Then after a while, I just stopped caring. Haha.

Im far from a pro, and i dont know their reasoning.

But in my case i use a racket until the string breaks and them move on to the next, so i keep the damper on the racket so i know which one to play with.

Exactly, people need to stop reading into these pros' antics so much. It's like asking why they request all 6 balls in play, and pick out 2.

(Nevermind, someone actually made a thread or two about it, sad...)

Superstitions? Curiosity? Obsession? Or it could be a mix of all 3 :).

I have the rubber o like the Sampras ones. You can get them at the hardware store really cheap. I found that as I played with one the rubber became softer and I could tell the difference between a new one And a broken in one. More likely though, they're stringing their racquets a ton and that's the easiest way to not lose it.
