    Aside from the grunt!

Victoria Azarenka has shown steady improvement and is prime crack the top 10 by end on April and might surprised everyone winning a Slam by the end of 2009.

Move over Nicole Vaidisova and Maria Kirelenko.

The grunts really prevent me from rooting for her. I hate the grunts, they're horrible.

    Agree 1000%, the other Shriekapova!
Saw her at I Wells, can't take it, we left the match with Safina.

    yep :(

You would think the WTA has more finesse and tactical variety because of women's naturally less strength. But instead it's more one-dimensional

I like caroline Wozniaki more than Azarenka they are both wonderful players but caroline seems more humble.

cant believe the amount of people that call them one dimensional when they're probably the same themselves, and probably even worse players...

I remember when Nadal was a "one-dimensional" player and "sucked on hard courts."

one dimensional ? but playing sucessfully and moving up in ranking.

SO they say with Nadal on hard court. Then SHA_ZAAM! Nadal game blossomed from one dimensional into mulit -talented play.

Case in Point - knowing how to make the best of a skill and is/was successful shows that there is still more up side to the person's skill to even go higher.

To be a top ten player - you got to have that swagger and the confidence that you are the best. It may come across as arrogant as many have mentioned, but its more on bringing that belief and focus when you are in the court. Players like Sampras, Federer or Nadal are great as masking it but deep down inside they are just as hungry as the next guy on the court. Ready to go and take no prisoners. That's why people are unique - some wear their emotions on their sleeves like Djokovic and Azakenka.

May be this the reason why Jankovic can't win a Slam - is always puts a smile in her face! SAY CHEESE!

She's focused, gives 100%, is not a pusher like Woz, and is entertaining as anyone. What's not to like.

she does wats needed to win, and so far it has worked pretty well...the amount of posters who call ppl one dimensional are probably the same themselves, and even worse players...reminds me of 'chris_in_japan' who claimed to be good, called ppl names and when i saw his vid, was shanking everything and couldnt even run to the ball...as for azarenka, i think she will reach top 5 this yr, if ppl like ivanovic and etc keep falling...shes also very good looking and i'll be rooting for her :p

    Such haters here....

She works hard, hits flat and deep accurate groundies, her backhand is solid, likes coming to the net, and she slayed the evil Serena in her own back yard....

So she grunts. Who doesn't? Look up Nadal Federer Dubai final on youtube and tell me who is a grunter. She's figured out how to make and win finals, she can only get better, in the top 10 dusting off underachievers occupying those spots, and she's a fresh face for the WTA.

I do not mind the grunt, and she does go to the net to close points and she is pretty good at it, didnt she won a doubles title last week? I really like her as a tennis player.

aza's "grunt" sounds to me exactly like the "grunt" of elena dementieva, but at the moment i cant remember whether elena does it on every stroke. azarenka does it on every stroke, which to me seems unnecessary and therefore annoying. because of that, for me, it's difficult to watch her play.

If she can improve her net game, then yes, she will do well with the current WTA game. She needs to improve her all court game to move higher.

Forgot to say that only bad thing about her rise is that, the way they are playing now, she is going to destroy my girls Jelena and Ana next time they play.

BTW non of these girls are actual stars in my dictionary. Nothing outstanding about them. period. Graf, Navratilova, Seles, Hingis, Evert were stars. You get some a modernized Evert in the court now she'll be called a sharapova. Non of these supposedly stars bring the star quality just the same old boring crap. William sisters are the strongest ever in the WTA. What does azarenka bring? She doesnt have the best in anything. Never will. Nor will Wozniaki.

LOL i was trying to be facetious or sarcastic. I think Wozniaki is a better player than Azarenka and probably future rivals in a year or 2.

Disagree there...we will get to see though.

Azarenka is interesting only because she is the first person besides Dementieva or Venus to not roll over and die to Serena.

TRue. But you must admit. Serena played like a pile of Teradecto ****. She couldn't move and didn't have her balance because of her knee causing her to miss a **** load of tennis balls :). Other than that congradulations to Azarenka just dont expect to win against a healthier more fit serena.

Unhealthy Serena still beats most of the current WTA so it is nice to see one who can beat her.

Oh yeah Azarenka is great. Beating a Williams sister in a final in America is a huge step. Good for her.

Hopefully she can take the next step and do well at a GS.

Well Jelena had her moments and beat Serena several times, once on GS 6-3 6-2 (Venus too including Wimbledon). She is 8-8 vs Williams sisters H2H, but she is in big trouble now.

It got boring when Seles got stabbed and Steffi was winning 2-3 slams a year while Seles was out. If anything, Graf and Seles are the alpha mommies for the ball-bashing that rules the landscape on the WTA.

It will be fun to watch Martina Hingis come back and beat Victoria Azarenka 6-1 6-2, you know it would happen just like when she did it to Sharapova in their first meeting.
