Vika's been No. 1 for 47 weeks.
(19 weeks + 28 weeks)
Previously, Caroline Wozniacki was No. 1 for 67 weeks.
(18 weeks + 49 weeks)
Poor Caroline. Hard to imagine she ever was #1 these days.
it may be hard for some to imagine, but i for one can actually REMEMBER back 47 plus weeks!
ever notice how caroline started sliding down the rankings at the same time she started (and continued) dating rory?
plus, her dad needs to stop living off her and let her hire a new coach.
but it's mostly rory's fault, imo
If Azarenka doesn't defend the AO, she'll likely lose #1. Serena looks unbeatable while Sharapova is handing out bagels.
sharapova (current world no. 2):
(1 week + 6 weeks + 7 wks + 3 wks + 4 wks = 21 weeks total at no. 1)
s.williams (current world no. 3):
(57 weeks + 4 + 11 + 2 + 49 = 123 weeks total at no. 1)
Woz has more weeks at #1 than Sharapova and Azarenka =\ glad we are out of that era. No offense people complain that Serena is still dominating at least Azarenka, Kvitova and Sharapova give her a fight sometimes. Serena actually has been getting in shape and playing on the tour readily because now she has to prove she is the best. It's kind of exciting in the late rounds when multiple top seeds are around ya know?
Hope it Serena who takes back the ranking.
Yeah, uh, no.
Olympic Gold, Wimbledon, US Open and a Aussie win.....will make her way more than deserving.
No one other her had a better 12 months even if they amassed more points through Premiers.
That is right!
Comms were just talking about what a blazing 2012 she had after that shock early exit at RG.
Hopefully Vika's days as #1 are numbered. Anybody but her is fine by me.
Let's hope not, she's too fine to be relinquishing that ranking. Unless Sharapova takes it, then it's ok.
Low standards? Lol.
For those interested in women's rankings, with near real time updates, try this site: http://tennis4wta.com/index.html It's clunky in design, but has tons of info.
Basically, Serena passes Vika if she makes the SF, even if Vika wins the AO. She passes Maria if she makes the finals even if Maria wins. And of course, if and when Vika/Maria fall short of winning the tournament, that makes it easier to pass them.
Serena makes the semis even on one leg, which is indeed what she may need to do. Bye-bye #1 Vika.
true dat ... guess it all depends on how many matches serena plays. can't amass the points unless she plays the matches.
2012 W/L record: 58 to 6.
2011 W/L record: 22 to 4.
2010 W/L record: 25 to 4.
You think Rory has been too much of a distraction? My opinion is that they tried to change her game too much and she ended up losing confidence completely. They failed to turn her into an offensive player and she lost faith in her superior defensive skills on top. The intentions were good but sometimes you don't want to go too much against nature. It's ok to work on weaknesses but not to the detriment of the player's fundamental strengths.
it's quite possible that rory has been a distraction, since his involvement in caro's life coincided with her decline in the rankings. she started losing left and right early in tournaments and not just at grand slams.
you could be right about their re-training failures, but to me the main thing she needs to do is get used to going through entire tournaments without on-court coaching. yes, that might mean that piotr might have to stop using his daughter for a meal ticket ... but it has to be done. she practices everything else, so now she must start practicing that. Piotr is like the crutch that continues to be used until the patient is forced to walk without it and then miraculously finds out he can walk unaided ... imo
That was then ....
This is now
Anybody know??????? @ http://www.wtatennis.com/rankings
Well, we know Azarenka is still world no. 1 ... anybody got the actual rankings, since the WTA website doesn't? It says, "Rankings as of 26 January 2013," but all the numbers are he same as they did two weeks ago. that can't be right . . .
oh my gosh. was there anybody in rod laver arena who wanted the belarus to win this championship? I gotta admit, she's the toughest beotch who's been world no. 1 since I started watching tennis on TV (even if her victory was tainted by the mid-match injuries sustained in two falls by her opponent). Still, Vika's tuff!
ViKA is #1 come Monday and will be #1 forever. at least for this year.
thanks for that link, iri10
so, Nostradamus is right for the 513th time this century!
Serena's injury = Ms. Owen Wilson Nose retaining #1 ranking....well, technically anyway...
