Vilas is fundamentally a much better player than Raplha™

I agree Joe S., many have mentioned this through the years. There are some definite similarities between Vilas and Nadal.

Only resemblance is both are lefty and both are good.
    Vilas is a man's man.
Nadal hits like a man, cries like a baby.

cries like a baby all the way to the bank and potential g.o.a.t.dom!
i doubt that a nasty spaghetti-strung racket would throw nadal into a fit of depression.

Nadal looks like a 12 year old, always just about to throw a temper tantrum, and uses that to intimidate linesman and opposition.
    McEnroe, Connors, Nastase, ..............

pure poppycock - LeeD's impression that nadal appears to be petulant on court does not relate to his actual behavior on court which does not include loss of temper, displays of unbridled anger or poor sportsmanship. the only attribute nadal shares with the three wags in red above is the ability to play great tennis.

Watch his face the next time he's on TV. He's about ready to cry most times.

Both extreme topspinning dominating dirt champions. Both very strong left handers with good looks. Different personalities. Both Nadal and Federer are all class good natured champions. Cant say the same for many of the top players from past eras.

It's the same kind of game and the same left arm. But Vilas's backhand is very different. And Vilas volleyed much much better than Nadal. And the charism is for Vilas !

My money is on Vilas if they met down a dark alley.

Although why do I never see pics of Vilas actually wearing the Puma G Vilas tennis shoe!

Saying that...gotta admire a man with a pink overgrip! The dude!

    Bill Vilas

Guess everyone has their Vilas stories-remember Kooyong back in 1979/80 & Blinky Bill Vilas in the gym benchpressing ridiculous weights, all the qualifiers terrified of him -hitting next to him, he was with Tiriac & the entourage!
we hit for 2 hours, went to have a drink, downtown in the city, got back & he was still hitting after 5 hours!
I think personally he overtrained but if anybody could do it, he could.
The guy was a rockstar, poet, tennis player, bushlawyer (He had to be later)...
    legend!
I was in awe because he could work so hard & for so long.
Borg had him on the dirt & most other places but it didn't stop Vilas trying..warrior.
Rafa is getting there...hoping he doesn't need Tiriac!

Nadal is beginning to look too much like recent Carrot Top to be called good looking.
